Chance of Acceptance/Merit Aid?

I know that I have to wait for the letter and that is the only way that I will know, but I was hoping for a few opinions on whether or not I will be accepted and could recieve merit aid.

My GPA is 4.601 weighted (4.5 is equal to an A in an honors course)
SAT: 2110 or 1400
Math: 770
CR: 630
Writing: 710
SAT II
Bio: 750
Chem: 770
Math II: 710

I have taken 3 APs between junior and sophmore year: Biology (5), Chemistry (5), and Art History (4).

This year I am taking:AP Psychology (A+), Hon. Physics (A+), AP Environmental Sciences (A+), AP Calculus BC (A+), AP Studio Art (A), and Hon. Contemporary Lit (A).

Extra Curriculurs and Awards: JV Tennis (9,10,11); National Honor Society (12); National French Honor Society (10,11,12); AP Scholar Award; Scholastic Art Award-Silver Key (10); Wheelock College Book Award-for schoolwork and community service (11); French Department Award-#1 french student (11); member of SADD (11,12); member of Peer Tutors (12); member and officer of Leo Club-community service (11,12); assistant teacher 3rd and 4th grade hebrew school (9-12); work at an insurance company (11-12); work at an ice cream window (10); 60 hr internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (12)

I come from a middle class family which makes way to much to get financial aid, but can not afford 50,000 a year.

If you guys could give me your opinions as to if I will be accepted and whether or not I might recieve any merit aid, that would be great. Thank you.

i think you have a great chance RD. i dont know about aid. i know a lot of similar applicants here (brandeis) with no aid for those stats.

Great. Thank you. I applied priority, so I should find out very shortly, but the wait is killing me.

Does any one happen to know if scholarships and financial aid are sent out with acceptance letters for priority decision?

Last year my D received her priority registration acceptance and merit scholarship notification in the same envelope. You must fill out the CSS form however, to be considered for merit aid.

How much did your D receive? It looks to me like Brandeis either has full tuition or nothing. I would be totally content with 10k a year.

She received a very generous 15K which she ended up turning down to attend another college. It was hard to turn down but she is VERY happy where she ended up, even though we are paying substantially more.

Don’t forget, Brandeis is phasing out merit aid.

[Merit aid facing reductions - News](http://media.www.thejustice.org/media/storage/paper573/news/2010/11/09/News/Merit.Aid.Facing.Reductions-3956292.shtml)

Last year’s experience may not be predictive of this year’s.

I know they are phasing out merit aid but still staying optimistic and hoping to receive some b/c Brandeis is my first choice and that’ll be the only way I can attend!

^Same. What are your stats?

SAT: 2240 (CR: 760 M: 710 W: 770)
GPA: 4.76 weighted and 3.99 unweighted.
lots of community service, extracurriculars, and AP’s.
visited campus and LOVED it! crossing my fingers.
you? :)

Slightly lower stats than you:
SAT - 2190
GPA - 3.96 with strange weighting
APs- 5, 4, 4, 4, 4
ECs and essay are what I think has allowed me to get accepted at Swarthmore and other schools like that so hopefully it will work for Brandeis too! Brandeis has my major (educational studies) and offers merit aid so it would be just perfect!

NJ mom of 2- Just curious–if you don’t mind my asking, where did you D end up going to school and why did she decide against Brandeis?

That’s funny! I’m interested in majoring in educational studies too! (and probably double-majoring in business as well). but Brandeis is the only school with that major that I’ve found. Good luck to you! The waiting continues…

The only schools I’ve found with that major are Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, and Brandeis but I didn’t end up getting the scholarship to Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr doesnt give any.

Oh, okay. Of the schools I applied to then, Brandeis is the only one with that major. Well, either way, best of luck to you! Hopefully it will work out for both of us. Any money would be better than nothing at this point! :)
