Chance of admission....?

GPA-3.74
Weighted GPA-3.9
ACT-28

As of my junior year I have taken 5 AP classes (US History, Gov, Psych, Lang, Econ), all of which but US History were this year, and received A's in all but History(B.) On the AP tests all my scores have been 3-5, except in Macro Econ. Next year I will be in 4 AP's (European History, Calc AB, Chem, Lit.)

I'm in speech and debate[on board as secretary], mun, deca, and mock trial and am currently employed. I have virtually no volunteer hours, and play no school or competitive sports, but I am considering joining cross country senior year at my friends' urging.

I have wanted to go to Hillsdale since 8th grade. I have had some problems which have lowered my raw GPA, and intend to retake the ACT, because I know I can do better. I am just kind of nervous because I want to go there so bad. I am aware that admissions standards are rising, and I expect that this year will continue that trend, what do you think my chances are?
(IDk if this matters, but I plan on double majoring in either Philosophy and Speech or Classics and Latin)

Here’s the site to find your state’s admissions counselor. It would be a good idea to get in touch with the rep and find out when they will be in your area. It could be for a college fair or presentations at local high schools. If not, you can certainly ask your questions. I have found all of the Admissions personnel to be very helpful. Also, if you haven’t visited yet, you may want to call and plan a visit.

You’re right to retake the ACT. Take advantage of the time you have this summer and prep for it so that you know you did your best. Some students do better on the SAT and vice versa. You may want to consider taking both in the fall - just to see. Finally through your church or school you should be able to find a vehicle for volunteer efforts. Just make sure it’s because of a genuine interest rather than to pad an application.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Here is another suggestion. As it appears Hillsdale is your first choice, apply Early Decision. It will lock you in, obligate you to attend, but they accept more kids off the ED list than off the regular decision list. You seem to be in good shape; listen to MomofTwins. She KNOWS.
