I am from South Carolina and I scored a 216 on the PSAT (71 CR, 74 M, 71 W). The cutoff for SC was a 208. I am currently a Semifinalist, but I won't hear back about my Finalist standing until February. I will be paying for college myself, so whether or not I become a Finalist will have a great influence on where I go, because many schools offer National Merit Finalist scholarships.

I have taken/am currently in 9 AP classes:
AP World History (4) sophomore year; AP Statistics (3), AP Physics (1), AP US History (4), AP Language and Composition (4) junior year; and I am currently in BC Calculus, AP Government, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Environmental. I strongly believe I will pass all of these exams with at least a 3.

Other Clubs: Junior Civitans (4 yrs), Beta Club (3 yrs), National Honor Society (3 yrs), Students Loving Students (3 yrs)
Junior Civitans is an all-girl community service club, and Students Loving Students helps disabled and mentally handicapped students at my school
I have completed a minimum of 40 hours of community service a year
I also played Lacrosse and was a co-captain my sophomore year but had to quit because I had to get a job

I have had a part time job as a skating carhop at Sonic Drive-In since the end of sophomore year. I worked approximately 25 hrs/wk that summer, 25-30 hrs/wk junior year, 40+ hrs/wk this past summer, and 20-25 hrs/wk this year.
Carhops are basically waitresses, except its fast food and we do it on roller skates.
My parents declared bankruptcy the summer after my sophomore year, and the bank is currently foreclosing on our house. They made less than $40,000 this past year, but they are real estate agents and that can fluctuate greatly.

Approximately 90% of Semifinalists move on to become Finalists, but I am terrified I won't be named as a Finalist because of my pathetic GPA/class rank and that joke of a Physics score
