Chances for Harvard/Yale/Stanford as a resident of SC - I will chance back!

Hey guys,

I was wondering what my chances are of getting into the following schools, in no particular order of preference. I'll chance you back if you leave a link in your comment.

Harvard
Yale
Stanford
Princeton
Columbia
Georgetown
Brown
Emory

-Aaand, the numbers, extracurriculars, and all that fun stuff:

SAT Scores, Sophomore year: 740 CR, 760 M, 770 W

I have taken college classes in all subjects since the 9th grade, earning a total of 2 years of college credits from the University of SC.

-I also own my own grass cutting business, and work as a singer/songwriter to earn tips in bars & play at open-mic-nights. Yay.

One more thing: I'm from a small town in South Carolina. According to admissions data, there seems to be a slight geographical bias towards students from other areas of the country. I realize that most colleges do hold preference to in-state students, but would coming from the south significantly hurt my admissions chances?

I appreciate your feedback, and like I said, hit me up with a link to a thread and I'll chance you back. Thanks!

-Ryan

P.S - If there are any schools you recommend that I take a look at, let me know. Thanks!

great gpa, rank, test scores. Average ecs. Georgetown and Emory are both matches. Ivies + Stanford are all reaches due to average ecs and no hooks. They are all worth a shot though. Good Luck.

Define “hooks”. And what would make the ECs better?

You seem like a great candidate!!! I think you’ll definetely get into Columbia, Georgetown, and Emory. Just remember, although you are an exceptional applicant, kids with stats like yours get rejected from top schools all the time simply because there is so much fierce competition. Although I think you will most definetely get into at least one of those schools, you might also want to consider applying to a super safety school. Like just a normal/ non Ivy state school. Just for that net. I only say this cause I’ve known kids who only applied to super prestigious schools and although they were all in the top 10 of their classes and had amazing grades etc. they didn’t get in anywhere and never applied to the regular state school as a safety so these brilliant kids ended up staying home while their friends went off to college.

Yeah, I’ve already decided that I’ll apply to the University of SC and Wofford College as safeties. I really appreciate the advice, thank you!

You definitely have stats competitive enough to be accepted to all of those colleges–but did you take subject tests? I’m pretty sure you need them to be accepted to all of those colleges. If you can manage 750+ on Math 2 and another one you should be in great shape.

Please chance me back

Hooks are like being a minority, legacy, first-gen, recruit. Your ecs aren’t bad but for what the ivies are looking for they are nothing special. Class President is good to show leadership though.
