What are the chances that I can get a single room at CMU? I'm an ED I admit to CIT. I'm not antisocial or anything, but in all my years of summer camp (CTY) I've enjoyed single rooms a lot more. I PROMISE I'M NOT ANTISOCIAL I would just prefer the peace and quiet of my own room. Is there even a field on the application that asks you for your prefered room type? If so, in which dorms would it be easier to get a single?

the only way you can get a single room is if you tell them you have some kind of an allergy or sickness/condition which prevents you from living with someone. Singles are pretty rare, and they’re in high demand. There should be a field in the application, but if there isn’t, you can email the housing and dining office. But it requires you to have a serious medical condition and you have to provide legitimate proof. Every dorm, except maybe the Rez has single room option, but not that many at all.
Honestly, living with a roommate is a great experience you need to have (I lived with two). If you’re afraid of things not being “peace and quiet”, then you really shouldn’t worry because you have lots of options in that case. Learn to talk to your roommate: We had a thing called roommate contracts that everyone had to discuss in the beginning and sign. If that doesn’t work, contact the RA. Worst case scenario, which pretty much never happens, you can move out.
If you’re really annoyed by living with someone, you can do off-campus living in your sophomore year, or become an CA ([RA & CA Selection Process - Student Life - Carnegie Mellon University](http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/student-life/raselection/index.html)). Morewood gardens (not sure about other dorms) has triples with two bedrooms. So one person can get one bedroom and two get the rest.
That’s pretty much all I know about single living. It’s possible, it’s very rare, and my best advice, as someone who also wanted a single before coming to cmu, don’t count too much on it and just enjoy freshman year :)

Is it easier to get a single from sophomore year on?

You have more options but you will have to find connections if you want to get off-campus, because those places go really quickly
