I'm a freshman in High School and I want to get into boarding school for my 11th grade year. I would need A LOT of financial aid though.

ACADEMICS:

I've been in an advanced class since 4th grade. I took regents level biology and Honors Algebra (New York State high school(grade 9) classes) in 8th grade. I got:
Algebra:Very high B's and A's
Biology: Very High A's
and A's in all my other classes.

This Year, I'm getting mostly B's and some A's. I'm taking 3 honors level courses, and 2 of them are for 10th graders.(Math, Science, Social Studies)

EXTRA CURRICULARS

3 years cross country
1 year indoor track
1 year outdoor track
A LOT of community service, at least 2-4 times a week.
next year I'm joining:
Yearbook club, French Club.

What are my chances I'll get into any good schools? Where should I apply? How should I boost my resume?
AND
What is a "repeat 10th grader"? Does that mean re-doing everything I did in 10th grade, then going to my junior year, then my senior year? Will this improve my chances?

I’m going to be honest… You don’t really have a hook. Have you gotten any awards? Do you play an instrument? You need to show your strengths. A repeat 10th grader is where you are currently a 10th grader and you apply for 10th grade. Good luck!

I have gotten awards and stuff for academic achievement, but taking a look at some of the profiles some people have…its they are really good. I was now thinking of places like Blair Academy, which is still a good school and has good financial aid and stuff, but it’s a little less competitive. Do you know any other schools like that?

Try looking on boarding school review, it’s a website that shows all the statistics. But usually some of the less competitive schools have slightly higher acceptances.

@browneyedgirl8,
Getting into prep schools for 11th grade is tough. Especially if you need financial aid, and come from an over-represented state (NY). If I were you, I’d add a few slightly less selective schools to your list. Also, I’d try to improve your grades a little bit. Most top prep schools don’t care that much about grades, but you should aim for mostly A’s with a few B’s. Your SSAT scores will matter a lot.

In summation, I’d add some slightly less selective schools to your list, improve your grades, and aim for a very high SSAT score (>95%).
