PSEO my whole senior year at a community college.
I would be an in-state student.
I am not first generation and I am also Asian. My dad is an alumni. I was in all honors classes since freshman year but they are not weighted into my transcript. I had an increase in my gpa and then a decrease and then a huge increase after my second semester of junior year. I expect to bring my GPA higher this first semester of senior year and consider retaking the ACT again but these are my stats for now. I did not do any sports but I did have some leadership in activities and took part in a medical club and volunteered around a bit. Nothing special though.
You probably still have work to do to get admitted. Taking action to increase your ACT score to at least a 28 on the September test would be a good investment of time in my opinion. Here is a summary of areas of importance for nursing admission from a prior post:
- An unweighted GPA of 3.9 or higher. Do not rely on a weighted GPA as the U definitely focuses on unweighted. Also, quality of coursework and taking challenging biological science classes (AP, honors, PLTW) is important.
- An ACT score of 28 or higher (which is 90th percentile or higher) with a STEM ready indicator.
- A record of volunteering in the healthcare field (nursing homes, hospitals, etc).
- The icing on the cake for potential nursing students seems to be getting the CNA. It demonstrates a potential nursing student can deal with some of the difficult/unpleasant duties nurses may encounter.
Good luck!
UPDATE: accepted into the program!
@lxkong did you end up re-taking the ACT?
Upward trends in GPA always helpful to the application!
Yes I retook the ACT but only scored a 27 overall that time. I really think the essay portion helped me get in and I sent a letter of recommendation also.
Congrats! It is a great accomplishment.
@lxkong Congratulations on you Minnesota Nursing acceptance!
(Can you post this and your stats in 2023 Nursing Admissions thread to give others info and share your accomplishment? Thank you)
