I am only a sophomore right now at a highly competitive school for talented and gifted students. I am in a class of 65. My GPA is 3.9 (unweighted). I am taking only 2 APs (Comp Sci and World History) this year, but next year I will be taking 7 and a dual credit electrical engineering course. My major problem is my rank. Hopefully I will be in the top 25%, but my chances are slim. Will my chances of going to MIT be slim due to my rank. I mean my school is so competitive. We have sophomores get perfect scores on the PSAT.

The short answer? Not by much. If you are qualified for admission and MIT sees you as a strong, unique and likable candidate, then it doesn’t matter if your fifth or one hundred and fifth, as long as you have the strong numbers that MIT almost exclusively requires for admissions.
