I have been keep researching on UC Transfer, and formulated another question;
Unlike UCB’s EECS with 3.88-4.00 admit range, UCSD’s CS has lower, 3.68-3.92 admit range for 25-75%. And the admission rate is 26%
Does this mean, if a student has 3.93+ GPA and completed all required and recommended courses, she will have very high, 50% or even 75%+ chance in general?
If a student has a 3.92, then she has a higher GPA than 75% of applicants. Completing all required and recommended courses definitely improves her chances. Note that being at the 75th GPA percentile doesn’t translate to having a 75% chance - but if a student has a 3.93+ GPA and has completed all required/recommended courses, she will have a very strong chance of being admitted.
If she has a high GPA, though, she might want to consider applying to Cal’s CS major instead of EECS. Being situated in the Bay Area is, naturally, a fantastic advantage for being employed in the tech industry (assuming that’s what she wants to go into).
Unfortunately there is not enough info in the stats the UCs release to know. 75th percentile just says that 3/4 of admits had that gpa or less; its still possible at a school like Cal that they only took 50% or less of the kids with that gpa. What is really needed is a chart like the med schools give at https://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/157998/factstablea24.html
