Chance or no chance

mostly ivies, especially princeton, yale and brown (family members live near there, but no alumni). plus stanford, UCB and UCLA ( im in San francisco bay area)
im currently a soph, (2nd sem) , asian american, and would need more help in advice more than anything else...

i go to a top 50 public school, and am actually considered a nerd there (techie, actually), only i havent tried a lot up to this point, so my class rank is so so, but my hs doesn't send class rank

freshman gpa 3.5 1st sem, 3.3 2nd
all standard classes (in my hs) except skipped a year of math

soph GPA 3.5 weighted, 3.3UW (currently 3.8 uw, 4.0 W for 2nd sem)
english, chem, chinese 4, pe, world hist, precalc
I have the hardest teachers in each subject, unfortunately. For example, my precalc teacher gave out around 10 A's in 150 students. the class average for my chinese class is a low B. I had a C in chinese (even though i am chinese) and a B in precalc 1st sem, and Bs both now. mostly thats whats dragging my grade down, i can pull As in even other hard classes.

mediocre, right?
I am planning to take a bunch of APs (5 classes) nxt year though, and probably can handle the work.

well, 2370ish SAT on practice tests (NEVER. CAN. GET. PERFECT. ARRRG!!!)
36 ACTs (yay)
800s on all practice SAT IIs except lit (750ish), though im not planning to take SAT II chinese.
I am a A/V guy of the youth program at my church, which means i am in charge of sound and worship powerpoint. I have been there for 4 years, and used to be 200ish people at most there, though numbers have dropped since 2 leaders has left.
I am an member of IT support for a local elementary school, for community service there maintaining the 100+ network of computers.
I am an avid photographer, and member of hs photography club for 2 years
I am also in the tech club and business club, ordinary member (as a sophmore)
i used to play the piano, (keyboard), and trumpet, though i havent touched them for a while. My true interest lies in drumming, which my parents were apathetic towards. They said they were accepting but would not contribute money, so i gatherd cash from all my sources (working odd jobs, favors, etc) and bought myself a drumset (they arent cheap, either) and have been teaching myself how to play it via books, etc.
I used to swim on a team every summer, though have stopped for two years due to family visits abroad, but i still recreationally swim
I plan to join link crew (oreintation for freshmen) next year
-plan on other internships, etc junior year, but not certain

Your GPA is pulling you down now, but considering you go to a top 50 high school it might not be the end of the world. Your SAT and ACT are great, but that doesn’t guarantee a spot a literal ivy school.

I’d recommend a little more leadership in your EC’s, at the moment they aren’t very interesting.

I’m sorry but at the moment I don’t think you’ll have hardly any shot at Princeton, Yale, or Stanford and Brown will be a reach. UCB and UCLA are matches.

I think you might want to consider other top 25 schools as opposed to ivies. They are all somewhat of a crap shot and your application, while solid, doesn’t blow me away.

Good luck!

As of right now, your grades are your major weakness- especially considering that (in my experience) freshman and sophomore years are far easier than junior and senior years, and most of the admissions officers I have spoken to consider the transcript to be the most significant part of any application.
Your test scores are good- I hope you’re able to do as well on the actual test as the practice tests!
Your extracurriculars are reasonable but not outstanding, given your lack of leadership positions. Of course, you’re a sophomore, so you have plenty of time to change that.

As of right now, I would consider Princeton, Yale, Stanford, and Brown to be definite reaches. You would have a good chance at UCB and UCLA if you can bring your GPA up.

I agree with both of the posters above. I think UCB and UCLA look promising but even with your SAT score (projected, of course - though the actual scores tend to be lower than the projected ones) your GPA will be a serious concern for these UCs.
