vanerbilt: slight reach
texas: match
virginia: reach (if your in state then id say a match, but out of state is very hard)
penn st.- in
colorado- in

schools to look at: University of Michigan, Wake Forest, Carnegie Mellon University

all of those seem in your range academically

I agree with the above. You have have really strong chances/will get in at UT, UC, and PS. As far as Vandy and UVA go, UVA is extremely hard if you live out of state. You have a chance though. I believe their stats are 67% in state and 33% out of state. Vanderbilt is a harder school, but you have a good chance, maybe even a better chance than at UVA. Good luck!

Are you in-state texas? It’s a lot more selective than people think. In 2009 92% of their admitted class was automatically admitted via the top 10% law. That leaves 8% for in-state Texas and the rest of the US.
Your SAT scores don’t seem high enough for Texas honors.

yeah, reach for honors and low match for just getting in sounds good. But if you are in California, why do you want to come down here to Texas?? lol. California has a great public college system and you know the in-state and out-state tuition difference. I would go to a smaller public in Cali which is still better than most schools in the country. You are really blessed to have a wonderful system like that.

haha. im extremely sick of california. also another thing that im looking for in the school i go to is a big division one football program. The only public that i would consider here in california is ucla. Im also sick of how liberal california is. I feel that if i go to texas i will fit in better and have a lot of fun.

haha, well let me tell you something then: Although Texas as a state is conservative, the university of texas is the liberal mecca or safehaven of the state. Austin itself is just a young, vibrant city with a lot of liberal views. All the pro choice/gay rights activists flock to Austin, because in Texas there is no other place. So if you are looking for a conservative place, UT is probably not the best place.

haha its definitely not as bad as berkeley is so im pretty set on it. I understand that pretty much every college is going to be liberal, but i just have a feeling that i will get along with the people in texas a lot better than the people in a place like berkeley

yeah im taking the sats again and im most likely going to improve on the 590 critical reading. im also going to either do an internship at an engineering company or work at a science camp for younger kids that is going on at the tech museum near my house
