I'm SO nervous to hear back from Tulane, it is definitely my top school.

My SAT's are 1740: 610 Math, 570 Reading, and 560 Writing
GPA: 90/100 (Not sure if it's weighted or not)
AP's: US History, Calculus BC, and Chemistry
EC's: Lots and lots of music: 2 school choirs, marching band, concert band (in school), district/region/state chorus; National Honor Society, French Tutoring, a few more extra curricular's.

I applied Regular Decision and my app was complete mid-November.

Chance me please! Thanks!

Ah I also wrote my essay on how I did this service-learning project last year (my junior year) I traveled to New Orleans so I could help teach elementary students from a school in the area whose school was barely functioning and didn’t have any resources for music or any extra curricular activities.

I also wrote a short response to why I would like to attend Tulane and I basically said that going there would prove to myself and other people that I’ve overcome challenges and ignorant, closed-minded people (I’m gay) and how going to Tulane would show people that although differences should be embraced.

What a great screen name! It makes me wish I had a better prognosis.

Certainly you have a chance, but all your stats are below the 25th percentile for Tulane. Your GPA converts to a 3.0 (Tulane averages around a 3.6 UW I believe, maybe slightly lower), and Tulane’s 25th percentile for SAT scores is around 1880 IIRC. The music EC’s are good or course, and a lot depends on recs and other factors, but just going by stats it would appear to be less than 50-50. I always hate telling a student that, but I know you want honest feedback.

Having said all that, certainly don’t lose hope. We just don’t see everything admissions does, which is part of the reason I don’t even like chancing. Just be prepared for the possibility of a negative answer.

Edit - OK, just saw your second post. Doesn’t really change things too much, but the service learning program you describe sounds very similar to something Tulane is helping to push in the schools of New Orleans (maybe we are talking about the same program) so that might help some. Not sure if being gay is anything like being an URM or not. In any case, I don’t think either factor changes things a lot, but they can only help, not hurt I would think.

Thanks! I think a 90 GPA is actually somewhere around a 3.6 though…I could be wrong.

Opps, my mistake. I looked at the wrong line on the conversion chart I use. it is indeed considered a 3.5 according to [GPA Conversion Chart](Calculate Your GPA With Our GPA Scale | The Princeton Review). I can’t imagine how I did that, so sorry. Brain fart, I guess. Certainly improves your chances, basically now it is just your SAT scores that are hurting you some. Maybe 50-50. Really hard to say. Afraid you will just have to hang in there until you hear back.
