Chance Please!

I live in middle Georgia and go to a pretty decent high school.
I have a 4.0 Unweighted GPA and am ranked 23 out of 326.
I have taken the ACT once and got a 34, and I do not plan to take it again.
I have taken AP World History, AP Chemistry, AP English Language, and AP US History. By the time I have graduated I will have also taken AP Literature, AP Calculus, and AP Physics. All of my core classes have been honors (except for economics which is not offered as an honors course).
I’m also in French Club, the vice President of Beta Club, and the President of SkillsUSA
I got a Mu Alpha Theta Excellence in Mathematics award for a project I did my Sophomore year. Plus like 100 hours of community service from being in Beta Club.
My dad is in the Air Force and I’ve gone to like 6 different schools during my lifetime. I even lived in Europe for two years.
If anyone could weigh in on what they think, that’d be very nice.

Which school @ UMich are you applying to (makes a HUGE difference)?

Also, it is a little odd that you had a 4.00 UW GPA in all Honors/AP, but ranked 23 out of 326. That is not a bad rank by any means, but a 4.00 UW GPA (which means you have all As/A+s) in all Honors/AP in the high school I graduated from would have almost certainly made you valedictorian/salutatorian (and my class size was not far off from your school’s class size).

@yikesyikesyikes my school uses a 100 point scale for class ranking, and I take an elective that I average a 93 in because the teacher puts in a lot of 85-90s in the grade book so it looks like she isn’t giving out free one hundreds and so she doesn’t feel bad about the grade that she gives us. That, combined with a 94 and 96 GPA my first two semesters (while other people were getting 99s freshman year) does not help out my GPA and class rank. However, my transcript shows both my unweighted 4-point scale as well as my weighted 100 point scale (honors classes are +3 points to your average, AP are +5). I’ve actually gotten legitimate A’s in every class, the extra points just help. If freshman year didn’t count, I would be much higher in class ranking. I haven’t gotten below a 95 (with added points), save for the elective with the fake grades, since freshman year.

I will apply to LSA because I would like to go to Ross. Do you think my GPA could make up for only being around 8%?

@yikesyikesyikes There is really no standard in GPA curving. In my D’s school there are around 5% GPA 4.0 in all 4 years of high school (~20 out of 400) every year too.
For OP, you are fine with your GPA and ACT score. It is just the low admission rate (particularly for OOS) making UMich LSA a very high match for you. You should try Ross pre-admission too. It is a reach (again due to low admission rate) but you are within the range. If you are not accepted in pre-admission to Ross, you may still get in LSA.

Makes sense, I was just curious.
