Hi everyone. im lfrom CA, and I was planning to apply to University of Colorado @ Boulder next year for Architectural Engineering . I was wondering If they look at unweighted or weighted gpa and ifit was calculated by 9-12 grades or 10-11. I will show you both :] PLEASE chance me !!

CR: 590 math: 740

SAT 2 : Math 660 im retaking and taking chem as well

ACT : scored 30 on first practice test and 33 on second without writing section, taking real test in september

@Ripper71 a safety is a back up school right? if it is, i thought CU Boulder was hard for out of states students?? and do you think my class rank only being top 30 ish will affect my chances of getting in? )

@Matemia thanks for that info, that makes it a little more reassuring :] . btw do you know if CU Boulder looks at gpa from 9-12 or 10-12 (and its weighted or unweighted ) b/c i know UCs only look at 10 -12 … but im not really sure about out-of states.

CU takes whatever GPA is reported on your transcript - it does not recalculate. So if your school reports your weighted GPA for 10-12, that’s what it uses. And if it reports both weighted and unweighted, it will use your better score. So not only are you assured admission, even OOS, but you likely qualify for a Chancellor’s scholarship (top 25% of OOS - unfortunately not much $ - $15K over 4 years), and maybe even their top awards.
(Caveat - I am familiar with Art and Science - don’t know if Engineering is different).

@drb thanks!! :] my transcript includes both 9-12 and 10-12. Does this mean that since my gpa in 10-12 is higher they will choose that one? Also, since my gpa shown on the transcript is unweighted, does this mean i’ll be competing with other students who have gpas weighted on their transcript? Thanks again :] ill definately apply to that scholorship, i need as much aid as i can get haha.

Yes, they will choose the higher one (I think). However, they will not recalculate, so if your transcript does not report a weighted grade, you don’t get the benefit of that score. (Note - you are highly competitive even with the unweighted GPA). And you don’t apply for the scholarship - it is automatically calculated.

CU has admission counselors assigned regionally. You should figure out who is yours (info is on the website) and contact them with questions. They can be very helpful, and are very interested in having good OOS students come to CU.

I found our regional counselor to be less than helpful, and not really interested if attended or not, to be frank. Out of the ten schools my son applied to - by far this was the one that was the least helpful. Also school that he received the less aid from (none) - by far.

haha ok. thank you both for your replies :] I will try my best to research more and call if necessary. Also, I have one more question. Does anyone know if the architectural engineering program at CU Boulder is good? I know its one of the few schools on the west coast who have the major but i dont know if its renown for it or not. Is it considered an impacted major at CU Boulder?

Thanks everyone for your responses!! i really appreciate the feedback
