I just want some average thoughts on these statistics.

Class Rank: 26/592 (in top 5%)
GPA: 95.0588% (how do you calculate the 4 scale GPA as well as determine weighted/unweighted?)

SAT: R-580 M-670 W-600

Took all honors maths up to Calculus 1 AP.
Taking Honors Physics II this year.

I don't really have a lot of EC's, but:
Most time spent in Boy Scouts. Received Eagle Scout last year.
Outdoor activities - Hunting, Fishing, Hiking, camping.
Participate in PA Math League contests.
Worked full time over summer at a machine shop.
Also work in summer mowing a cemetery lawn for a church.

Give me some general thoughts about these stats as well as a chance for Lehigh University and Penn State (Main campus).
Also, didn't send in applications yet. Will be in within next two weeks. Hopefully Early Decision for Lehigh.

Forgot to mention I am also taking an English 101 Composition course at Northampton Community College through the dual-enrollment program for free after school 2 days a week.

Also, if anyone would be able to answer this, I'd appreciate it:

The ED 1 deadline for Lehigh is the 15th. I'm really not sure if my teacher recommendations will be finished then, since I asked a little late. Lehigh has ED2 which runs until Jan. 1st.
Would it be worth it to take an extra week to revise my essay and give my teachers a little extra time, and then just apply ED2? I'm not really sure if Lehigh has a rolling process, I'd still really like to get my decision before the end of the year!

penguino is a *in liar. You cannot get into lehigh with those sat scores. It is one of the "new ivies" with a reputation of a top 30 school. It's SAT avg is above 2000, so raise your scores and don't listen to bull *ters like penguino that don't give you detailed feed back

You're in at PSU. I must say that I agree with tsh1226. Lehigh probably isn't doable, even with ED. They've become way more competitive over the years, and your SATs definitely need to be higher. It would be a different story if your writing was 580, but as it's reading...Try to get your math into the 700s and your reading above a 650, and then maybe you'll have a shot, but since you're doing ED, I'm not sure if it'll work.

Still, give it a try. Good luck!

Hey, you're in PA. Could you please chance me for Pitt Honors and Temple?

hmm... Lehigh's class of 2012 admissions stats say that 846 students were admitted with SATs below a 1290. I know it is a good school, but Ivy selectivity? I know there are limited spots, but I don't think it is Ivy selectivity yet.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it's Ivy selectivity, either. I just know a lot of people who thought they'd get in but didn't. Like this math genius kid from my school. He took the AP test for Calc BC without a calculator and got a 4, but he was rejected by Lehigh, Gettysburg, and UPenn and now goes to Penn State. Lehigh's weird about who they select, so I wouldn't say that you have NO chance. It's just that neither your math nor reading score is stellar.

Oh, and may I ask where you found such detailed information on the admission stats of that school?

Honestly, lehigh is not as hard to get into as the people above are saying. It's a good school, but I knew a lot of kids that passed and went to Pitt and Penn State University Park instead. There is nobody that considers Lehigh anywhere near Ivy league level. Well, maybe lehigh grads.

I think it a no brainer for you at Penn State. As for Lehigh, I think it's a bit of a reach for you based on your test scores. Remember those kids admitted with scores like yours COULD be recruited athletes. If you are one of those, then you definitely have a shot. If Lehigh is your first choice, write a stellar essay. You never know.

I got a reply from admissions about my earlier question about recommendations and such coming in after the deadline. Thought it would be good to share:

"Thanks for your recent message, and it won't pose any problems or concerns if your recommendations arrive a few days after the November 15th ED deadline. In fact, we find that most ED applications become complete within two weeks of the deadline."

Good news. Should still get it in ASAP though.

You should be admitted to Penn State. You are a match for Lehigh as well since your class rank is outstanding & you have a strong aptitude for math. If you apply ED, your chances are good for Lehigh, in my opinion.
P.S. The "new Ivies" stuff is total garbage conjured up to increase magazine sales--and it works for magazine sales. Over the years some schools that are very good, but not outstanding, have been labeled as "new Ivies".
