Chance this malaysian kampong boy!

Hey alll,

Im a malaysian citizen studying in Singapore at the moment. Iam of mixed ethinicity (Sri Lankan, Filipino, Indian, English)

I would like to know what are the chances of me in getting into Boston U, Bently U, Babson college, Northeastern, American U and Fordham are

I sat my SAT in January and got an 1820

690 reading
590 Math
540 Writing (i hear unis dont care much about these yet..)
9/12 in essay

I have done GCSE's which are tests for freshman and sophmore year and this is what i got (transferred into american grades)

English Literature - B+/A-
English Language - B+/A-
Science (include all science physics, chem and bio) - B+/A-
Additional Science (same as above) - B+/A-
Business studies - A+
Music - A+
Art - C+/B-
Math - C+/B-
ICT (Information community and technology) - C+/B-

I now do A levels which is a british advanced level course such as IB and AP

I have finished half my course and just completed the AS level exam, Im thinking I got ( again transferred into american grades)

Philosophy (B+/A-)
Psycholohy (B+/A-)
Business studies (B+/A-)
English Literature (C+/B-)

Im thinking for my senior year i drop a subject and pick up another AS. Dont feel shocked about that, you are supposed to drop one subject as the A2 course (other half of course) is alot more harder. So im thinking of picking up history, classics or Biology and dropping English lit or Psychology. Which do you guys recommend i do?

EC's:

Basketball (9,10,11,12) (SEASAC - Varsity) Hoping captain next year..
Rugby (10,12) (SEASAC)
Cross country (11)

MUN - (11,12) SIMUN, THIMUN, WLC (something like MUN but its more focused on the environment and how it affects the economy)

Internship - Glenn defense marine - logistics husbanding agent, worked on their website and cost cutting plans, also worked as a operations assistant.

Charity - Went to cambodia in grade 10 to help build houses, Helped tutor kids at this orphanage in singapore, Did a bake sale in grade 11 to support a charity in chiangmai, and even went to chiangmai to help paint the school's library. Also raised money busking for my schools arts festival.

Music - I'am in 2 bands, which i play guitar and bass for, as well as singing back up vocals. Also performed in the arts festival, representing the school by playing on the Queens birthday at the British high commission, played in unplugged and plugged by raising money for charities (5 years now), also represented the school in events such as battle of the bands (Runners up), and also Fobissea.

Prefect - I mentor a year 11 tutor group once a week helping them with A level choices and IB choices, made presentations for them, on duty on lunch time once a week where a watch over areas of the school.

Well thats pretty much it haha, sorry if i bored anyone :( So please chance meeee, also please give me some recommendations, I 'am looking at the Boston area :) Doing Business for my undergradd btw haha :)

Thanks all!!! Terimah kasih! I will chance back also!

bumppp bumpp pleaseeee i will chance back!

What’s your UW GPA? Do you need financial aid?

My school doesnt have a GPA, and no i dont need financial aiddd

Could you estimate one based on the grades you get?

Try and do lots of A-levels or, better yet, AP levels which are shorter but at a similiar level - GCSEs/AS levels only in all subjects probably won’t be good enough Also, work on improving at Maths as, although you’re going into business, it is still a very “solid” subject and high Maths grades generally mean that a student knows what they are doing. But your extracurriculars are very good.

Overall, I’d say you have decent chances. Good luck! :)

Chance me back, please?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/722292-applying-harvard-how-good-my-courseload.html</a></p>

P.S. How well do private tutors and such in Malaysia/Singapore know about applying to American universities? I’m half-Malay, moved back here very recently from England, and need to ask somebody for the two teacher recommendations, you see (and I’m home-schooled). But I don’t know if people here often apply to American universities.

try to get the SAT scores up, for internationals sats are important, I might also suggest sat2s if possible. Your Ecs look really good

Personally you have a fighting chance for all of the colleges if you get your sat scores a bit higher. I know someone who goes to Boston U w/ similar stats of yours.

Boston U
Bently U
Babson college
Northeastern
American U
Fordham

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745104-please-chance-me-ill-chance-back-2.html</a></p>

Well my GPA would be around 3.4 -3.5 im guessing based on my grades, maybe higher and just making estimate here. Thanks all… i see my SATs arent high enough to stay safe… grrr :S Well im aiming for a nice comfortable 1950 for my next test hoping to raise maths ALOT more

Can anyone recommend some good business unis that are around my range? Thank you!

quequeque is the person you know, doing business? what stats did they get? thank uuu

I would say Math is my weak point… I’ am too worried in doing Math A level as the stuff on it is ALOT harder than what is on the SAT, so should i could just show them i know math through my SAT right?

I suppose you could. I took the Maths and Further Maths A-levels and the SAT, and I can say that the latter is a lot easier. Get The Official Study Guide from College Board if you haven’t already, and perhaps the Barron’s 2400 Club book. The Math part of the SAT is relatively straightforward; if you put in the hard work, I think you should be able to get > 650 at least :).

Thanks man i will take your advice :), bump bump on anymore chances!

more chancess please! bump bump bump i will chance back!

^Hey, sorry if I sound fussy, but it’s not thanks man, you know  (everyone on CC seems to assume that I’m a guy - probably because my username’s “python-”).

i think babson will be the reach, boston and american will be matches, and others are low match/safeties. i think you should apply to more top tier schools!

Top tier schools?? like whattt??? Give me some options pleaseee :)
