and when did you apply? your gpa and sat are at/over their acceptance level…(but the average is a 3.4)

LB??? what does that mean lol?
& I’m a junior, but i’ll be applying for summer '10

You will get a scholarship or two. Did you receive a National Achievement Award? That would you get you a full ride I believe. UA would love to have you! As an alum, I would be excited to welcome you to the UA family.

27 on the ACT gets you an automatic scholarship IF you have at least a 3.5. So try your hardest to raise your GPA. Also you will get substantially more if you can raise your ACT score by even 1 point (still must have at least a 3.5).

[Out-of-State Scholarships for 2009-2010 - Types of Scholarships - Undergraduate Scholarships - The University of Alabama](http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out_of_state.html)

As far as being admitted, I am pretty sure you would be accepted.
Also, I don’t know what your intended major would be, but our engineering department “supplements” whatever scholarship you receive from the university. So if you major in engineering and get a university wide scholarship the engineering department will give you another scholarship of about the equal amount.

uaprophet - do other departments do the same thing? or do you know some other departments that do?

my DD will probably get ua or presidential scholar thru grades and act scores…but she doesn’t know what she wants to do yet.

what scholarships did you get uaprophet? and what kind of stats did you have?

MikeWozowski, there are several departmental scholarships that students can apply for once they are at UA. One mom told me that her son landed a $6,500 prize from the chemistry department during his junior year. Since he was on a National Merit scholarship, UA deposited the money in his account – he never used it as an undergrad (he had won scholarships prior to attending UA). After graduation, the school issued him a check for all the scholarship monies he had won – he had enough to pay for one year of med school.

Mike, I am not sure about other departments but it is possible. Just inquire. As momreads said it is possible that other departments do the same thing, especially those who might want top students in their department. I remember when I was college searching Auburn’s math department offered me a nice scholarship to major in math (unfortunately auburn is a lot more stingy with their money than we are).

I received The National Merit/Achievement package which pays tuition, housing, and gives a 1000/yr stipend depending on whether you receive a corporate sponsorship through National Merit. It also gives a laptop and one time $2000 to use for study abroad or summer research.

In addition to that the engineering department gave me $2500/yr which I use to pay for meal plans and books. Finally I received a smaller outside scholarship which goes into my pocket via refund check at the beginning of the year.

I had a 29 act but I was a National Achievement scholar which is based upon the PSAT and then a subsequent competition which determines winners based upon SAT, essays, extra curriculars, etc.

Thanks everyone for all the information. Im going to look up some scholarships!
