Back on the Oct 2010 test I got 650 Math, 610 CR and 510 Writing (1260/1770)). That was the first time that I have ever taken the SAT and I also didn't study at all prior to taking it. Are those scores good for a first time and without studying?

Now I plan on taking the Jan 22nd test and I going to get the Blue book and I plan on studying a lot. I would like to get in the high 1900's is this plausible? I mean going from a 1770 (first time/no study) to a 1950 with studying?

Achieving a 1900 from your starting score is possible. I studied for a bit over the course of about a month to a month 1/2 and raised my score by 230 points.

Definitely,
I improved from a 150 ish PSAT to a 2000 ish SAT.

I think you should focus on writing because it’s the easiest to improve.
If you study hardcore during the break with silverturtle’s guide and “how to get a 12 in ten days” you should easily hit above 650.
Math, practice makes perfect, keep going at it.
CR, read direct hits.
Aim a little higher, with hardwork you should get in the 2000 range

Yes, especially with writing. Don’t listen to that second poster. I saw that she (probably really a guy) writes rude things to everyone. If you want to raise your score to maybe a 680 at least, try to get a raw score of 46. I think you’re close.

I believe that even higher scores are possible with studying, ie 2200+. When I first took my practice test, the questions in the writing and reading section felt wierd. But eventually, I got used to them. You should only feel bad when you truly understand the format and then do bad-right now you have a lot of potential.
