Hi guys!! Can you please chance me for UCI and UCSB and the other UCs?
I have a 3.45 UCGPA and 1750 sat. 300 hours of community service and did 3 sports.
My stats are very low because my father's work collapsed and I had to work 32-40 hours a week from soph-junior year, destroying my gpa.
My mother could not work because she cant speak English, she never graduated high school and my father only graduated high school with a GED.
We are ethiopian refugees and are a family of 8 with <20K a year. I basically hold my family's income. I want to go to UCI or UCSB because I want to do pre-med. Do I stand a chance at any UC's especially UCI and UCSB.
I got accepted to UCR but cannot go there.
Thanks!!!!!!!!

I assume you are a California resident? If that’s the case you will get into UCSB easily and most likely UCI. Tell the admissions officers, in your application, about working 40 hours a week!! That shows you worked your ass off and still did well!

yes I am a california resident. It is hard juggling a full time job and school to support my family.
Thanks for the chance. I appreciate it.

I can’t even imagine! I have a lot of respect, and I’m sure admission officers will as well, for working full time and managing a 3.48. I think another aspect in your favor is that you would bring a great deal of diversity and interesting perspective to a college campus. Individuals from Ethiopian decent are unfortunately underrepresented in United States colleges, and progressive universities (like the UC system!) would jump at the opportunity to expand their diversity.

Thanks a lot I appreciate it good luck at Boulder!!! I am sure you will get in!

Your stats are close to mine, except I have a 1780 SAT with a 3.8 UW GPA. I got in to UCI so I am very confident that you will too, especially since you are an Ethiopian refugee supporting your whole family, wow :o
