Chance?

I never thought I would do one of these threads. I always found them to be useless because nobody can honestly say if you will get in or not. However, reading everyone's chance me threads has me worried. Dartmouth is my number one school. I was born in NH but moved to New York and have wanted to go back to the Green Mountains for years. I know my SAT scores don't really make me stand out. So, here we go...

2 Good Teacher Recs
A, hopefully, good peer rec (We've been best friends since we were 4 and he is a great writer.)

I wrote one of the best essays I've ever written for my app essay and expanded upon the brotherhood and bonding that the backstage crew experiences throughout the years for my short answer.

So if more info is needed I'll be glad to provide it. I love New Hampshire and I love Dartmouth so please chance me.

Your scores are definitely low, but don’t worry too much about them. Your ACT is (I think, as I’m going off of memory) at the 75th percentile, so that’s not really a problem. If your essays and recommendations were as fantastic as you’ve described, I think you have a shot, though maybe not as high as you thought previously. Good luck!

By the way, take everything I have said and what others will say with a grain of salt, as none of us have actually been accepted yet. (Except alumni, current students, and ED applicants. Check the accepted threads for more stats if you want to compare yourself).

Thanks. I always knew the chances were slim and after seeing my SAT scores I wish I hadn’t sent them but I sent them before I found out what they were.

Nonetheless, even if your scores are low, sending them all in does show a lot of attempts and dedication, might earn you some marginal brownie points. Any hooks, such as first-generation or geographic diversity? Since your school doesn’t offer AP classes, I suppose you might live in a rural community, which often can help.

You say your weighted GPA is 95…are they going to look at your transcript and see a lot of Bs?

I’m not going to lie they will see 2 B’s.
I’m an avid snowboarder I live in an extremely rural area. Nearest town is 15 minutes away takes 15 minute to get to school class of 80 kids. On a plus geographically speaking we are the second largest school district in NYS.

Two Bs is not a lot. Your scores are marginal for D, but given your very rural setting and the limitations of your HS, not bad.Any chance of being a recruited athlete?

Meant to add that having taken those college courses is excellent, shows intellectual enterprise and a desire to challenge yourself academically.

I’m a First team Section 6 soccer player but I don’t think I could handle D1 athletics. I was always fine with my school until about last year when I started to visit colleges and running out of classes to take I felt like I was being shorthanded when tour guides or admissions reps would ask how many AP classes everyone took.

Everybody has a fair chance. We aren’t from the D admissions office, so we can’t say.
I just want you to know that I’m praying for you and I wish you the best!

Thought I would add that my short answer was strong and about the brotherhood I enjoyed in stage crew. I thought it would look good for a school so big on fraternities. Also my peer rec ended up being outstanding, really was a deep view of who I am. Also a 95 is equivalent to an A+ at my school so at a school with the 4.0 scale it would be a 4.0 correct? unweighted I’m a 92.5 which I think is a 3.8 or an A at my school.
