I have a 3.9 weighted GPA and 30 ACT but I have OUTSTANDING ecs and really good essays and Out of the world OP recs. DO i have a chance?

yes

Of course. But according to Apply - Duke Undergraduate Admissions, the middle 50% of Duke’s Trinity College of Arts and Sciences class of 2017 received an ACT score between 31 to 34. For engineers, it’s 33 to 35. So your ACT score is on the lower end of the spectrum.

Your ACT results will be a significant acceptance impediment; I do not suggest Duke admission is impossible, however it’s quite challenging. Were to retake your ACT and increase the composite result by a few points, your probability would be greatly improved.

I think that without a hook, getting into Duke with a 30 ACT would be a long shot. I would HIGHLY recommend retaking it. I got a 30 the first time I took it and raised my score to a 34 with some prep. If I hadn’t, I don’t think there is a chance that I would be a student at Duke today.

I started my own organization and I got an amazing letter of rec from a harvard grad who is now a social entrepreneur. Is that a hook? @BlueDevil15

@DSMS321 I wouldn’t say so to be honest. A lot of applicants have impressive extracurriculars and recs. By hook I mean being an underrepresented minority or recruited athlete!
