Chances, and such...

I never signed up for Yale's mailing list, but they sent me their application anyway. So I figure that's good, and I have now started considering the university.

Mathelites - 1 Year

I think thats all my clubs, I'm not sure. I'm planning on talking to some of the teachers who run the clubs and see if they'd let me BS some sort of position.

Also: I'm a member of the National Honors Society and the Spanish Honors Society.

Also #2: My original choice for early decision was Columbia University, but after getting the application from Yale, and considering that its a higher-rated school...well, I'd like to know what my chances for Columbia are as well. Better? Worse? etc.?

Also #3: I'm an immigrant from the USSR. My family came to the United States seeking...I guess religious refuge. The USSR was a disgustingly anti-semitic nation (Jim Crow-like). We lived on welfare for a while and my parents divorced but now we're fine and are pretty well off, well my dad remarried but my mom hasn't. Can that help me in any way? What about the fact that I help out in the Russian community, as in, my grandparents and their friends; translating, helping them buy groceries, get by, etc.?

I think you have an AMAZING chance of being admitted. Your EC's are focused and interesting. I like your website as well.

If your essays are equally impressive, I'd say you're probably going to be receiving a thick envelope.

Hahahah, that comic site is amazing :D

Thanks guys! I'll give it a shot then!

Also #4: It should be noted that I also participate in my school's independant, advanced, research program. Which means I'll probably be going to Intel (but most likely won't win).

Also #5: In film club we not only watched movies, but we, as in I, wrote and directed our, as in my, own movies.

And question:

I'm an immigrant and my parents are immigrants, as I've mentioned already. Both my parents had to get their graduate degrees...again...in the USA, but they didn't have to go to college again.

Am I, then, technically...the first of my family to go to college in the United States? Does that count for anything? Or is that garbage considering both my parents went to grad school (one's an engineer, one's a doctor) here?

@also#2: yale is a bit more selective, but both are hard to get into and both can be really random. columbia's engineering (fu--no offense HAHAHHAHA. ha. ha?) is a bit easier to get into, but it's still selective. in short, they're both tough.
@also#3: if you want to, you could make this into an essay topic. Not sure though, you might want to milk your comics for all they're worth. Then again, I've been known to give bad advice, so I hope this doesn't result in some fiery car crash or freak accident.
@also#4: I'm doing intel too! Good luck!
@also#5: hahah.

I would think that since your parents went to college, then you're not the first gen to go to college. At least that's what I would assume- both of my parents went to college outside the US, but I don't think that counts for anything.

So, in your opinion, how do I stand over all?

Amazing Chance (like BANANAs so enthusiastically exclaimed)
Great Chance
Good Chance
Fair Chance
Bad Chance
No Chance

Good chance, I'd say. I think the comics will really help make you stabd out and seem more interesting, which is good. Make sure to highlight them a lot!

wow. awesome site. just stun them with that.

This might be of some relevance to you - last year there was a kid (Coloradosomething) who also did comics. They were political ones, and they were nationally recognized etc. I think he did really really well with colleges (shoe in everywhere probably). Ok, so your comics aren't nationally recognized, but they don't have to be- I say you still have a good shot, a lot better than mine! (:() Oh yeah, if you decide to EA, make sure you sign up on the roster thread!

Yeah I think I will do EA.

ur stuff is bananaz...b..a...n...a...n..a..s....im jealous :) good luck with ur bright future

I'll assume "bananaz...b..a...n..." means something good, so thanks a lot man!

Only if you ain't no hollaback girl.
ps, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=87849

it's not too OFFICIAL like the princeton one (they're wayyyy too obsessed), but hopefully we'll be more active in the months to come ;]

Alright thanks, I added myself.

Oh, one more thing: I don't think I mentioned that my GPA is 3.84. Is that good/bad/average?

LMAO!!!!! "The vagina-gator" HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA.

Oh, Vagina Gator.

Some people love that comic, some people just don't get it.
