Chances anywhere...

Gpa: 3.9 w/3.67 uw (im guessing) [gpa is out of soph and junior year.]
fresh year grades waayyy better than soph year grades. I missed a month of school bc of sickness and then ended up with horrible grades for the year. iunno if colleges will understand that. so basically, straight As junior year, not so much sophomore year. :'( :'( :'(

SAT: 730 CR/ 660 M/ 610 W (essay = 8) I'm retaking in October, and from the college board site practice tests, i've been getting straight 10s on my essays and im hovering around 720 in math. so hopefully ill be able to improve the score a lot.

SAT IIs: Bio M - 730 US History - 700

I'm 7th in a class of 40 at a very competitive private school. I'm taking the most rigorous course load possible. I'll have 4 APs by may (US history, calc ab, english lit & phsyics) and my school only offers 3 others.

--------------------------- :-D : ^ D :-D --------------------------------

I hope someone read that...

Anyway, I'm not sure where I can get in. How high/low i should aim and all that. I think I want to be a doctor... or a writer. So if someone could recommend schools with good science/english departments that would be super great. I have a list that I kinda just threw together. Tell me whatcha think...

Boston U.
College of William & Mary
NYU
Northeastern
U of Southern California
U of Virginia
and then here's where I kill myself:
Cornell
Columbia (my mom was undergrad at barnard, grad at columbia, does this help me?)
Duke

Please someone add to my list of shame...

also, v. lacrosse - 9th, 10th
v. soccer - 11th
switched bc of scheduling difficulties and i thought soccer might be something fun to try, then it just became too hard to schedule against riding

Don't be so unconfident! I think you definitely have a good chance at most of your schools. Cornell, Columbia and Duke might be a reach due to your GPA/test scores......but you still have a chance!

You never know unless you try.

thanks :^D

anybody else?

Rachel, I think you'll have a better chance if you applied ED to Columbia because of your legacy.

thanks :)

does skipping 8th grade make up for my grades at all?

anybody???

youll get into cornell

thanks :-D
cornell's actually my first choice

Rachel, how do you compare to the kids in your school? (i.e. test scores, GPA, etc?)

umm im not really sure. I know the person with the top SAT scores in my class got a 2300 and 3 800s and has a 4.3 GPA (so, perfect academic record if she hadn't lost 100 points on that damned SAT). And then the SATs drop down to 2000. IDK if that's what you wanted to know or not.

bump.......

Boston U.- Accepted
College of William & Mary- Accepted

NYU- Accepted
Northeastern-Accepted
U of Southern California-Rejected
U of Virginia-Rejected

Cornell-Accepted
Columbia- Rejcted
Duke- Rejected

thanks :-)

why rejected from USC?

bump.......

On the contrary to the person above, I strongly believe you'll get in USC.. Alot of my friends w/ grades lower than yours got in. in reality actually... if you pay alot of money, USC will let you in. If you want another idea... Kristen. from that MTV reality series, Laguna Beach, got into USC... Key point in getting in that school is just to have enough money and have pretty good grades. Your grades are above average

Boston U.- Accepted
College of William & Mary- Accepted

NYU- Accepted
Northeastern-Accepted
U of Southern California-Rejected
U of Virginia-Rejected

Cornell-possibly accepted
Columbia- Accepted
Duke- Rejected

Personally, I've seen a lot of bad people with legacy get into Columbia--with stats way worse than yours. I think if you apply ED to Columbia, you have a chance to get in.

bump.........

It's actually really hard to get into UVA and W&M out of state...
You'd probably have a better shot at Cornell than either of those out of state...
Duke or Columbia would be the hardest to get into.
Northeastern would be the easiest.

You would not be rejected from USC, BTW. USC is pretty different than those other schools. Much more west coast.
