Stephennn,

He was the salutatorian....Penn State UP's decision is 2/3 based on grades, so it makes sense that he would still get in with a low SAT score. For all those people that are not salutatorian or valedictorian, you need to get a significantly higher score. Posts like yours are how disappointments get generated from people who are led to believe they are a lock when they're not. That SAT score would normally be nowhere near high enough to get accepted.

not saying the OP is a lock. i'm just saying that sat scores aren't everything at PSU, get over yourself.

other kids in my class (that aren't val or sal, or top 10) have gotten into university park.

i'm not denying that with a low SAT score that it will be hard to gain admissions - it will be (PSU is definitely a reach). but it's not impossible.

the OP can take my post with a grain of salt - everyone should take forums with a grain of salt. clearly my sal had some other things going for her - but PSU is really not the hardest school in the world to get into. difficult, yes. 10% acceptance rate? no. i just didn't want the OP to think that her application wouldn't even be looked at because of a sub-1800, by no means was i telling her that s/he was a lock.

my problem with what was said was that someone said PSU doesn't even LOOK at applicants that have under an 1800 - that's a lie. sal or not, my friend with a 1500s SAT score was looked at. it doesn't make what i said any less credible or untrue.... they looked at her with a sub 1800, granted she was a sal.

done.

Thank You everyone, Now for both Penn State and Maryland I would be willing to do the summer start and go and take classes over the summer, Anyone Else????

Yea your a match for your lower schools. However, the low SATs may hurt you because I've heard that top schools really question a high GPA if the SAT's don't match. Cornell and Georgetown both seem like reaches, but they can be brought down a level if you up those SAT's.
