My leadership is in my international summer camp, cuz i was chosen as an instuctor .I am also Editor of my magazine and next year i'll be Editor in Chief. I was also a chair in my MUN. As far as the number of Ecs is concerned, my instructors in my school told me that it's good to limit them to two or three, that's why i only have debate, MUNs impromptu and badminton.

I wanna study international relations and my SAT2's are gonna be German, French and Chemistry. And i will approximately get over 750 in all. (high chances for 800's or 790's in German and especially Chemistry).
My SAT1's cr are from 740-760 and writing 750 and my Math 770-800, from the past papers that i sat for.

Plz come and elucidate asap.

Why do you need to know so soon? ...

I'd say you have excellent chances at any Ivy, although you do have an awful lot of activities and interests and languages. I might worry that your application seems too good.

I might worry that much of it is BS and embellishment. I love how -- despite apparently not taking a single standardized test -- the guy definitively states that "I WILL APPROXIMATELY GET OVER 750 IN ALL MY SAT IIs" and declares what his SAT I's "ARE." The arrogance of "high chances for 800's" on certain tests is vomit-inducing.

This is the type of stuff that will turn off every single admissions officer who reads his file.

i dunno if i'd call it vomit-inducing. he's got a certain profile based on practice tests he's taken. heck, i'm even more cocky about standardized tests.

Okay, to retaliate to the vitriolic comments by dear Columbia 2002. My SAT 1's are not guesses. It's my past papers as well as my PSAT results. It is clear that u r just being spiteful , just because u r so inept. Plus, i am an IB student. And people in IB dont just sit around commenting on others. They acutally WORK (u might need to look it up, since u clearly have no idea what it means). The IB curriculum covers every single aspect of SAT 2s and as long as u STUDY (look that up as well), if u r in IB, u can get amazing scores. I am not just saying that, it's a fact and not an unsubstantiated, narrow-minded allegation.

And the only BS about this thread is what u r saying, trying to trash others, just because u r INADEQUATE (do u need a dictionary or sth?)

To all the other NON-SPITEFUL members who wanna offer some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISICM (oh, i'm sorry, am i using too many unknown words there?), u r more than welcome.

i think you two just had too much to drink lol :D

BOTTOM LINE....show me the SAT, SAT and SAT's.

^^^or ACTs ;)

Wow, lol... debate_addict, how long have you been around the Columbia forums?

Your words speak for themselves -- your purported SAT "scores" are indeed guesses.

I'm speaking the truth and giving you an objective answer. I have no reason to spite you.

Plus, i am an IB student.

And so are thousands of other CU applicants.

And this has exactly what to do with your self-proclaimed greatness?

You CAN get amazing scores if you take IBs, or if you take APs, or if you buy a test prep book, or if you pay a private tutor. Anyone can get amazing scores if he/she is smart and/or studies. The question is whether YOU HAVE amazing scores, not whether you CAN get 800s. You simply don't have any scores.

I agree that it's a fact that someone in IB CAN get amazing scores. That YOU WILL get amazing scores is something different, and we'll wait and see how you do.

I'm inadequate because I actually took the tests and did well on them, rather than convincing myself of what my scores are before I got my results back?

To all the other NON-SPITEFUL members who wanna offer some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISICM (oh, i'm sorry, am i using too many unknown words there?), u r more than welcome.

[/quote]

Actually, you are using too many unknown words -- I have no idea what "critisicm" means. Can you please define it for me? I've never heard of that word.

I hear wedding bells.

GOOD GRIEF!

Nevertheless, have you or haven't you physically received official scores in the SAT, ACT, or SAT II's?

i don't think debate_addict is going to debate against you Columbia2002 after that post LOL :D

I hereby declare Columbia2002 the winner LOL

I would be careful of labeling certain things as extracurricular activities.

An 18 hour seminar is not much of a commitment and the same goes about your local gym. The one day Red Cross errand, tutoring once a week during the winter, and 2 weeks at the pamphlet company? Again, not sure how significant those really are in the end. Play up the things that are more significant time commitments. You have plenty of things (badminton, piano, MUN, journalism, etc) that you could really emphasize!

I'm sorry, but I think you should start to worry about your SAT CR if you think inadequate and constructive are hard words.

"To all the other NON-SPITEFUL members who wanna offer some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISICM (oh, i'm sorry, am i using too many unknown words there?), u r more than welcome."

you spelled criticism wrong, stupid.

sorry that this chances thread has become a trash u thread. you're just so abrasive.

why don't you tell us what you got on PSATs, and let us judge for ourselves.

Okay debate_addict Columbia, as well as the rest of the Ivys, have endless lists of IB students, and in reality I think that studying in a specific program doesnt make you a better student and based on your replies a better person than people that have studied in normal high school settings.

I am pretty sure that any admission officer would rather accept a person with a meaningful essay and strong personal qualities than just someone that is good at taking tests, so work on your people's skills cause in reality even if you get in or you are rejected from Columbia your social skills will always be important.

Other than that work on your essay, be confident but not over confident, and you'll do well.

...This may seem like a silly question after reading, but is the application process at Columbia violently competitive?
Also, I'm in IB as well, and I work my butt off all the time, but I'm certainly not viewing it as a free pass to any college, especially an Ivy, and we won't even get our scores until after application decisions are made.

I wouldn't use the word 'violently'. there's a ~10% acceptance rate, i.e. 9 out of 10 people who apply get rejected. it's the reality of things. standing out can be tough but there's always more you can do.
