Hi! I’m not sure if I am in the right thread or asking in the right way, but applying for colleges is stressing me out because I have no idea whether I am going to get accepted anywhere or not, due to a lot of colleges becoming more and more selective as the years go on.
Currently, I am a senior in High School, in the IB program. I live in Florida, and my preference is the north, out of state. From the main colleges I have been looking at, such as Pomona College, New York University, and Boston University, most of the universities are much more selective than I thought they would be. So, what are my chances? I know already they’re pretty low, but what are other colleges with a good program in Political Science/International Relations that I can get into? Do I still have a chance of getting into Florida universities like UF and UM?
Here are my credentials:
-All IB classes, with 4 HL’s in Biology, History, English, and Philosophy
-3.9 Weighted GPA
-Strong extracurriculars (all aren’t listed here):
-Summer internship with County Commissioner
-Officer with Interact for 3 years in high school
-Executive Secretary for SGA this current year, and treasurer my sophomore year
-Key Club Secretary for junior and senior year.
-Muslim Student Association Vice President for senior year.
-SAT is 1250. 660 Reading, and 590 Math. Although, I will retake it in October. I have not taken the ACT yet due to complications, but I will take it during October.
-Asian Female with my family having a medium-lowish income. But, I am not sure if that will help or detract my case here. (Pretty sure it’ll detract, but that’s a discussion for later).
I’m sure my essay will be fine, but that remains subjective to the reader.
If my future plans are of any help, I plan to become an Immigration Lawyer, and then transfer to become a Foreign Service Officer in a different country.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
