Dad is alum from Notre Dame. Notre Dame seems like my biggest stretch right now, and ASU's honors college is getting harder and harder to get into. nebraksa and UA seem fairly good matches, but any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I heard that being a NMSF and NHS really helps at UA, someone mentioned that it was almost guaranteed that you'd get in. Is this true, and would it be true at ASU as well?

I'm surprised you haven't gotten the massed mailings from Arizona state offering you a full ride and automatic admittance to Barrett through National Merit.

I got the letter about the full ride, but I don't remember anything about automatic admittance. Did you get a letter that said that? I might have missed it in my letter, but I don't think I would've skipped over something that important.

I remember it saying something about Barrett Honors College, and I'm guessing that if you got a full ride to the university for an academic competition, they wouldn't dream of denying you their honors college.

Your only reach is Notre Dame, so I'm guessing that with your above college choices, you're looking at either paying full tuition or close to nothing. A difference of about $160,000. Don't worry, I'm in the same quandary. But have you heard good stuff about Arizona State or the honors college?

Yeah, I've heard a lot of great things. The Wall Street Journal just had an article a little while ago about how state schools like ASU and their honors programs are getting more and more competitive. Also, Barrett was voted #1 honors college in America by Reader's Digest in 2005. When I visited it, I absolutely loved it. The campus, the community, Tempe, the facilities, everything was great. Plus, the weather's great (something like 350 days of sun).

I haven't applied to ASU, but I am seriously thinking about it. Did they pay for your visit? What are you planning on studying?

NEWSFLASH

The acceptance rate at Barrett is so high that you won't be rejected! RELAX.

My parents set up all the plane tickets and the actual trip, so I'm not sure if they did or not. I don't think they did, but I'll look into it. As for what I'm studying, I plan on doing a double major political science and psychology. I checked out both their psych and poli sci programs at ASU and both seemed very solid. There's a special honors thesis that you do for psych, and that sounded interesting to me.
