CHances At Colgate, Bates, and Colby

A white male from a highly competitive high school in fairfield county CT. I am a junior and am dead set at getting into one of these schools.

Freshman year GPA- 3.45
Sophomore year- 3.7
Junior Year first semester 3.9 still in second semester.
I will have a lot of honors classes (Around 10 i think) and 4 AP's in total. My school doesn't offer AP classes until senior year.
Top 25% of my class in a very competitive town.
On the honor role except one quarter freshman year

1950 first try on SAT's 650 on all sections. Practice test have indicated that i will get closer to 680 on math and 720 or 740 on reading.

A huge increase in grades from a decent freshman year.

My Dad is an active alum at colgate and that should help me in that school

EC's- ten years of music lessons and playing in a church/ community service group. Dedicated a lot of hours out of every week to play in different groups.
4 years of varsity tennis.
12 years of sailing with 4 years of teaching.
Community service project to clean up the beaches around me.
I have a lot of long term EC's and i focus on a few things for a long time. I am making tracks of my music playing to send to these colleges.

WHat are my chances at Bates Colgate and colby.

Anyone need some help here

Your rank and GPA are both a bit low. Probably a low reach for all three schools.

Colgate: Reach
Bates: Reach
Colby: High match

Hmm. I figured reach for both of the maine schools but colgate, i thought it was a match because how involved my dad is. Will help that he is a really involved alum. Also do you guys think I will get into any if i applied early decision.

ED would help, how active is active? From my understanding Colgate does not place a major emphasis on legacy/parental connection…

Like friends with everyone in the admissions office and the head of the office as well. He also gives lectures at the school.

Well then, ask him what he can do for you.

I would say you are a shoe-in for Colgate. Relationships mean everything at a small school. Nuff said.

But these schools aren’t unrealistic reaches, though.

Yea my plan is to apply ED colgate and ED2 colby or bates, which one do i have a better chance of getting into.

I think you’re a good candidate for Colgate. It’s good that you got better every year and your SAT is decent. Try it again and try to get higher :)

Bump, anyone else have any ideas

I don’t think the difference in admissions rates at Bates and Colby is great enough for you to make your decision based on that. If Colgate doesn’t work for you I’d apply ED2 to whichever you determine is a better match for you. You still have 8 months in which to make that decision.

what do you guys thinks about me?? colgate is my reach/dream
i plan to do ED1

currently a sophomore
third culture kid
american citizen
grew/born in asia
don’t need financial aid

ib/ap plans:
junior year- IBSL art, IBSL english, IB philosophy
senior year- AP art history, AP chinese, IBSL english, IBSL art

grades ( i go to a prestigious private/international school ):
freshmen year- 3 b’s, 3 a’s (bad i know, screwed up pretty bad this year)
sophomore year- 1 b, 5 a’s (so far, probably won’t change all that much before the end of the school year)

sat:
havent taken it yet, but i did pretty well on my PSAT, and plan to take SAT class all through junior year
plan to take the SAT’s : june next year & october of senior year
plan to take SAT 2’s : chinese, english

extra:

  • varsity basketball
  • junior varsity volleyball
  • varsity art (i know this sounds weird…basically my art won my school’s yearly art competition, both freshmen and sophomore year, and was brought to an art show, that included many other international schools across asia)
  • athletics council club (planning to run for officer this year)
  • art club
  • co-founder of wounded warrior club (vice president)
  • youth teacher at my local church (for ages 4-6)
  • won scholastic art competition regional gold key & national gold medal
    summer:
    this summer-
  • volunteer work at my local church, everyday, 3-5 hours
  • parsons summer intensive studies, 1 month, 4 credits
    next summer plan-
  • intern at a hotel branch
  • volunteer work again

Haha, this guy’s trying to hijack the thread.
