Chances at Colgate, Boston College, Hamilton, and Bucknell

If you want to save your family money, then consider Miami University right here in Ohio. It is, far and away, the best public university in Ohio (at least for undergraduate programs). Plus, yes, the females are fairly attractive. The campus is attractive too.

MAJOR PIECE OF ADVICE: Do not apply Early Decision anywhere unless: 1) you are absolutely certain that you can afford it, and 2) you are also absolutely certain that the school is your favorite. In other words, almost nobody should apply ED. You do understand that Early Decision is totally binding, right? Once accepted, you cannot back out.

BC: Low reach
Colgate: High match
Bucknell: Match
Hamilton: Match

BC is toughest I would say, they REALLY stress all community service and involvement so focus on those in your essay and personal statements, or in the sections where they allow you to elaborate on that kind of stuff.
Colgate is also tough, but definitely doable. Shoot for a 30+ on the ACT and you will have a much higher chance of Colgate, and that will make you a very good candidate for both Hamilton and Bucknell.

bumpity bump

Maybe Amherst, Wesleyan, definitely Trinity. I’m looking at Bucknell as well, gotta go visit. Hamilton and Bucknell are matches, Colgate and BC a bit out of the target zone but doable. Maybe a safety in Babson or Wellesley? If you’re looking for a small northeastern school. And if you’re looking at Middlebury and have any chance, try Cornell or Dartmouth! They both accept a solid amount ED, and you’d stand a chance!

I consider Amherst to be well out of my league, I visited Wesleyan and have given it more consideration since it went test-optional, Trinity I was pretty meh on. I’m a dude so no Wellesley, Babson seems more business focused so I’m not sure about that. I grew up in Middlebury and would love to go back, but seems beyond my reach. The problem with applying to Cornell or Dartmouth ED is that there is such a small chance that I’ll get in with my scores, so I don’t want to waste my chance to ED at a school.

Super late bump, but what are my chances at Northeastern?

The way the selectivity of these colleges has been ordered by previous posters seems arbitrary.

By SAT (25th-75th percentile)

1) Hamilton: 1300-1470
2) Boston College: 1270-1450
2) Colgate: 1270-1450 (tie)
4) Bucknell: 1200-1400

By acceptance rate:

1) Colgate: 27%

 1. Hamilton: 27% (tie)
 2. Bucknell: 30%
 3. Boston College: 32%

@Alden97‌: I’m sorry I’ve been of zero help to you. I hope your college search has proceeded well.

Yeah this was a while ago @merc81, but my new ACT score is 32 so that helps, with a 3.84 UW GPA. I already applied early to Colgate.

That’s great that your ACT score exceeded your estimate, which was a decent range to begin with. Your latest actual score should give your application an even smoother ride. Colgate is a fine school and seems to match your listed criteria really well.
