I'm posting this after lurking on CC for an embarrasingly long time, and this is my first post, please be nice?

Thanks so much for helping me.

A girl in my grade had similar (if not a little weaker) stats than you, and she got into Columbia ED. She was also a URM (black.) I can't assure you of anything since such a small percentage of people will be admitted RD, but you're not hopeless. After all, Columbia looks for active and diverse students, and you are both. Same goes for Cornell. GWU and BU look very good. I can't say anything for Georgetown since I'm not at all familiar with how their admissions are.

which school in Gtown are u applying to?

Well, I can't promise to be nice exactly, but I can promise to be polite and frank...So:

Columbia - Very Unlikely
George Washington - Probably
Georgetown - Maybe
BU - Probably
Cornell - Probably not

Your first generation URM status may help you at Georgetown and even Cornell. Maybe. But your URM status will probably not help you at Columbia. Given the kind of student Columbia attracts, there are just too many other URM applicants with better stats.

i got into g'town with lower stats than yours and i'm also a first generation hispanic female. I think u have a good chance at all of them, but sometimes the admissions process is pretty random. Columbia and Cornell are definitely reaches (they are for everyone). Good luck!

Columbia - Extremely Unlikely
George Washington - Reach / Average
Georgetown - Reach
BU - Average
Cornell - Reach

Weak ECs, weak SATs, weak GPA

I agree w/ everyone else it seems.. columbia is extremely unlikely. however.. i don't understand how GWU or BU would be a reach. They are both safeties, especially, especially! GWU. You would be a candidate for the honors program at GWU. Georgetown is a reach but not out of the question. Cornell is a reach.

and she doesn't have weak anything. compared to a lot of CC members, maybe, but keep in mind that the admit rate to yale for CC members is like 46% EA! for some of those schools, that is above 75% percentile (GWU and BU)

however, I don't think first generation hispanic will help you TOO much.. because you go to a small private school in Baltimore.. that shows that your family isn't exactly impoverished. it might help some though, idk.
good luck.

With a good essay and recs I think you have a significant chance at Columbia -- you'll find out for real soon enough.

Columbia-very small chance
Georgetown-small chance
Cornell-very small chance
George Washington-I'd say your in
BU-same as GW

I want to thank everyone who replied; I haven't updated this because I was reminded of how much of a reach these schools were, and seeing it in print is sometimes worse than in your head (maybe?)

But I received good news, for anyone interested: A likely from Cornell and acceptance into Georgetown (elmers45- it was Georgetown College) and Boston University.

Again, thanks to people who replied, I'll be camping out by my mailbox until the rest of the letters come.

Congradulations!! If you get into Cornell also, which school are you going to go to? (assuming rejected by columbia)

Congrats, frozenstrawberi! You've been accepted to great schools. Be sure to keep us updated.

a 3.82 is not low. if she had about 100-200 more points for SAT, then chances at Columbia would be decent.

but as of now, Cornell would be your best bet if you want Ivy league.

good luck and congrats for BU and GW! :]

Final update...

I recieved my email on Thursday and my FedEx on Saturday... I am heading to Columbia next year and I couldn't be any happier! I love this school so much and I can't wait.

I think this will be very surprising since it was against almost all the predictions, but I guess it shows that you never know.

I'm just so happy! Thank you to everyone who replied!
