Chances at CU Boulder, UofA and ASU

Hello everyone,

I’m a senior in high school and I’m VERY stressed out already.

I want to start off that English in my second language and when I moved to US I didn’t know anything about American school system (gpa, sat’s /act’s , etc…). I didn’t really care about my grades from grade 9-10 because all I did is play video games all day.

I got a lot of D’s my sophomore year which dropped my total gpa to 2.5… (grade 9-10)

During summer before my junior year I decided its time to make a change… I had to remediate classes online in order to raise my gpa… Online Classes were expensive and I had to get a job in order to pay for them since my parents didn’t want to pay for my mistakes and we are very tight on budget. I ended up retaking 7 classes over 2 summers and changed my grades from D’s to A’s. I boosted my gpa from 2.5 to 3.2…

I recently took my first sat and I got 1100 on it. I’m planning to take more sat’s/ act’s until January. My goal is to get 1250+/ 26+

Some of the extra stuff about me:
I’m a 4 year varsity wrestler and senior team captain
I have 200+ community service hours
Have been working since I turned 16 years old for almost 2 years already in order to pay for my own mistakes
I was a member of robotics team in my school during freshman year
1 year varsity football player

I’m planning to write my college essays about how I changed as a person , never gave up and improved my academics.

Do you guys think I have good chances at CU Boulder, UofA or ASU?

Thanks!

Your chances are not good for those schools. They have much higher average test scores and gpas. If you are an instate student in either Colo or Az, your chances might be better, or they may have programs for you (ESL, minority) to get help with admissions.

But why are those schools important to you? There are a lot of good schools in Colo and Az where you could get more financial aid.

https://admission.asu.edu/freshman/apply ASU is very straightforward with their admissions requirements. As long as you pass all of their core competency requirements, and you can improve your ACT by 80 points or get a 24 on the ACT, you are in. Otherwise your GPA may get you in but I am not sure what your “core competency” GPA is by their standards. CU Boulder is kind of a long shot for you. Not sure about UA.
