Chances at Davidson and Others...

Basically, I just posted a biography here...so you can probably ignore most of it...

I'm primarily interested in my chances for admission / scholarship(?) to the three numbered colleges. Davidson is BY FAR my first choice, but admits only 27%. For financial reasons, I could not apply ED to Davidson.

1) Davidson (Open House)
2) Claremont McKenna (Alumni Interview)
3) Rhodes (Phone Interview)

I ALSO APPLIED TO: Dickinson, Haverford, Washington College MD, St. Mary's College of MD, American (Open House), Tulane

MY SCHOOL: Parochial school in Baltimore with a strong academic reputation, but its small size does not allow for the usual (public/large school) array of AP classes.

I always swore that I would never post, but as the decison dates grow nearer, the idea of some feedback has grown much more appealing.
I'm honestly concerned that my credentials are too "Average" with no particularly strong points.

Thanks for helping me out!

It sounds as if you have picked carefully. You will be in at Rhodes, no problem. I think that you will also be in at Davidson and Claremont McKenna. With Claremont McKenna, you will probably have an advantage, being from the east coast and having a projected science major. For both schools, your SAT scores are fine, but not spectacular. Your GPA/class rank is great, and your ECs are fine. You have leadership ability. You are a balanced person. I predict that all three will accept you. The other schools that you mentioned should be no problem- not sure about Haverford, because they are selective.

You look like precisely the type of student Davidson attracts.Have you visited
the campus and interviewed? Have you contacted the women's track/xc coach? I'm very familiar with Davidson. It is absolutely elite and great.Does the college have all the data you posted? If you make an all out blitz convincing the school and the coach how intensely you desire to attend, you might make it.Good luck and do all in your power to make your case in person on campus.

Good point, Tigers Rule. Make sure that Davidson knows they are your first choice. If that was not clear in the essays, interview, etc, find a way to let them know. Call, email, or write, definitely.

just a point to ONEMOM- Davidson is as selective, or more so, than Haverford.

Yes, I visited Davidson in September and honestly, everything was almost exactly as I had imagined. It was so crazy because I was 6 hours from home and everything seemed so familiar. Plus, it was just this perfect 90 degree day and (this sounds so ridiculous lol) but as I left, the sun was setting over the lake which just topped it all off.

So I fell in love with a reach school...it's a slightly stressful situation :-</p>

As far as running, I cannot realistically compete at the DI level...I have the passion, but lack times. Running will always be important to me though regardless of whether Im competing with a team or against myself...
I did plan on contacting the coach (if admitted) about the options that would be available to someone at my level, but I think that for the most part it will be up to me to keep myself running.

You're not a definite at Davidson, but I think you have a very good shot. If you're admitted, definitely try to attend the open house for admitted students. I was pretty much committed to another school, but Davidson's admitted students day seriously tempted me. I agree with you about the "familiar" feel of Davidson's campus- I felt very much at home there, although it was a bit small.

Might want to take a look at Holy Cross-a very good Jesuit school that is very similar to Dav. with good combination of academics and athletics. HC has Div.1 lacrosse and a very good Classics/latin major. Also HC is slightly easier to get accepted to than Davidson.

No intention of demeaning Haverford- I meant that it's up there with Davidson and Claremont-McKenna. Her other choices look more like match/safeties.
