hey you sound like a great applicant, but its Duke so its a low reach. coudl u pm me your essays?

Just messaged you! @Rurouni

Mid reach. Your class rank is great, but your ACT and extracurriculars are nothing special. Let us know if you get in.

I disagree with above ^
ACT really, past a certain point (33, in my opinion) doesn’t hurt. If it’s high enough, it can help, but certainly won’t hurt. I do agree that your EC’s aren’t super impressive. Having said that, your course rigor is amazing… what were your AP scores? You can PM your essays, but I’d say it’s a low reach.

I’m going to go right ahead and say match. If you aren’t getting in, it’s not because of your ACT score. And honestly there isn’t anything else weak in your app.

Chance me back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1597037-chance-for-top-lacs-ivies-and-other-ultra-selective-schools.html#latest

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback!

AP Scores:
Biology-5
Calc BC- 5
English Comp- 4
Chem- 4
Env Sci-5
Stat- 5
Physics B- 3

This year, I’m just taking the psych and literature exams. Hoping to get a 5 on psych and at least a 4 on lit.
Speaking of ECs, some of the programs were self initiated (i.e., Art class, swim instruction, and the writing of my book). Sorry, I should have included it, but does that change anything?

And @Mlolo98, just messaged you.

Another question–does being Asian really hurt my chances? Or does it depend on how you present yourself to the college? I think my interview went really well, as the interviewer said that I was a pleasure to talk to me and it was nice to see someone so young with worldly experiences…although, that might not mean anything. I think my teacher recs were on par as well.

bump

being asian hurts a lot; trust me I feel your pain (Im azn :P). It’s cause there are so many strong competitive asian applicants, but not many URMs, hence why they are URMs. College want a distribution of races, so naturally they can only take the top asians; which is quite frankly extremely hard.

I guess so. :/

@Rurouni , did you read my essays yet?

bump
decisions come out March 27th!!!

one more bump…

You seem like a competitive applicant – getting in is definitely plausible. Likely, it’ll come down to how your essays and how your extracurricular activities stack up with the rest of the applicant pool. I’d consider it a low reach.
