Chances at George Mason University? *please look*

I am currently a pre-business student at West Virginia University. I wish to transfer to George Mason University in order to reduce the cost of my current tuition, and to be closer to home.

As a high school student, I constantly got into trouble and had no regard for my grades. I would ******** the homework, wing tests and forget to do assignments regularly. I ended up graduating with around a 2.5 GPA. I went to Radford University as an undecided major undergrad student my freshman year of college. Following an identical path to my high school days, I earned a 2.56 GPA. The following year, I took the year off from school to think about my future, and decided to transfer to WVU as a pre-Management Information Systems major (pre-business). I really matured and put a great deal of effort into the first semester of the school year and earned a 3.71 GPA, taking classes such as accounting 201, micro econ, and computer science 101.

Assuming I get similar grades the second semester of the school year, will George Mason University admit me as a transfer student?

-At this moment, my cumulative GPA is 2.97
-3.71 GPA for the fall semester that just passed
-around 50-55 credits in total
-mother earned her masters degree from George Mason with a 3.8 GPA in grad school (not sure if this is important unless she donated a building/monument/sucked someone off).

According to the GMU site, they do not require SAT scores from students who have earned 50+ credit hours, which is a good thing since I omitted the entire math section when I took it in high school.

Do I have a chance?

Please give me your feedback, thanks again!!!

bump…

It looks like you are fine to transfer. I don’t think they will give you credit for any class you didn’t get a 2.0 in. They have a “transfer credit worksheet” here:

bump, need more feedback, kinda worried

Congrats on bringing up your GPA so much. I think you will definitely need to keep up those grades for another semester to be a good transfer candidate. Usually 3.0 in college coursework is the minimum for transfers. Most colleges do consider that you had a parent as an alum - “legacy factor” - but I don’t think it carries a lot of weight. GPA is much more important. Also, make sure you still qualify for in-state tuition if cost is a big factor.
