Won 1st place out of 80 ppl appx. at two local competitions which each had about 13 local high schools.

AP Calc BC Studend Of the Year
Multivariable Calc and Diff Eq Student of the year

Taking hardest classes available in my school, including around 9-10 APs (but only around 7 or 8 tests, since I am only going to take one english test, etc)

Participated three times in local science fair but only won once (see above)
Held two internships at the local univ. (one for SW and one for ISEF, each in different fields: biology and industrial engineering, respectively)
Attending summer program this summer

Taken 300 (junior level) and 400 (senior level) math classes at local Univ. with A+ and then A, respectively (mathemetical structures and number theory were the courses)

Thats about it....
How do I fare for Ivies/topschools, most importantly, Harvard/MIT. I'm south asian btw.

Where are you from? Being from an under-represented state could make a difference. You are certainly qualified for HYPM, but so are another 10,000-15,000 kids for 1650 slots at H. Over 23,000 applied to H this time. Do apply to H and M, but please find some other schools that will make you happy as well. How about Rice, Duke, Columbia, UT Austin (engineering), Michigan, etc.

You're pretty good at math.. lol
Seriously, you have a great chance for each of these schools. Good luck!

Also, because you have a lot of math/science accomplishments, you should show these colleges that your not just one of those math/science nerds (even if you are) and WRITE A STRONG ESSAY.

You have a lot of good things going for you, especially that Science Research Club, which displays initiative. When you're competing among top applicants to the top schools, it really comes down to your personality, your character, and your passion.

I am from the good ol' state of Arizona. And I am not really like one of those math/science nerds. I just went to go see a comedy show with a pretty famous guy and I sweet talked the security guard into letting me and my friends go back stage. Maybe that doesn't really mean I'm not a nerd but oh well, it's just something I guess lol. H is my EA school, I'm pretty certain already, since that is the one I have a hardest chance of getting. MIT is supposedly my "safety" but I don't really believe that and I think it's a little arrogant to think so, as many CCers think RSI = MIT.

And I forgot to include volunteer experience. I volunteered around 110 hours at a hospital.

Edit: And which stand out more, the math competitions, or SW/ISEF, because in my mind, the science competitions were infinitely harder to get into and much more prestigious, rather than the math competitions where I just take a 1 or 2 hour test.

Hey, zog. You're going to RSI? See you there =) I'm a fellow south-asian. Why don't you consider Cal Tech? It's a good school, and the campus is a nice. Haha, I got in this year so I can provide you with some info.

Well Cal Tech is a little small. I would like a larger student body because it'd be a lot more "warm" I guess. Cal Tech is 1/3 the size of my HS. Cya at RSI then?

uhh..no offense dude but why in the world would you care if you can get in without RSI? It's like a huge honor and a huge achievement! Unless of course you are thinking for some reason about not going...that might work in my favor...

Dawg. Yeah, see you at RSI. And maybe even at Harvard year after. You're, in my opinion, set for admission. If you're interested in Penn or Caltech, hit me up.

I really don't intend to hijack this thread, but what is RSI? It seems to be everywhere on this board and I have NO clue what it is. Googling, I found: Repetitive Strain Injury. Rudolf Steiner Institute. That is all. :(

But, on the original topic, congratulations on all your cool mathy achievements! And congrats on RSI, I guess, whatever it is?

I swear that before coming on CC I used to think I was an impressive student... but when I look at zogoto's stats... they blow me away. Some of you guys are brilliant... and its hurting my ego a little bit, but keep at it.

zogoto: i don't know much about college admit stuff, but yur app is looking pretty solid to me (i wish i had anything close!) All ur leadership positions will look really good, esp that SHS prez thing. At least at my school that's a huge deal and very competitive (maybe that's just cuz we have a huge spanish program and like everyone is in the club, but anywayz)- i think the last 3 or 4 presidents have either gone to harvard or princeton...lol maybe thats just at my school but hopefully its encouraging
