Chances at Harvard, Georgetown, UVA...

SexyYetiBeast you are ridiculously generous. Are you some 3rd grade teacher on here just to make everyone feel good about themselves or what? No one has those types of odds at the colleges listed let alone a student with such a ****ty GPA. You are almost suggesting that getting a bad GPA then a good GPA+good test scores is better than good GPA all along. Wow. Don't count on any of those colleges on your list, including Delaware Honors.

I still don't understand teh problem with geometry freshman year...I took Alg. II freshman year and didn't have a problem....

I dont understand the problem either. I took Algebra II (Freshman Year), Geometry (Sophomore Year), Precalculus(Junior Year), and Honors Calculus(This Year).

Nobody cares what happened freshman/sophomore year. He has awesome scores and improved greatly in all his subjects. I say he's in everywhere.

are you kidding me? you think he can get into MIT and Yale? yeah right.... his shot is just the same as any CC'er, if not worse (just because you improved doesn't compensate for slacking for a year)

Well I think they usually do look at freshman/sophomore if they see that your GPA isn't that high. But honestly, regardless of your scores, I think a few on those lists are reaches. If you see the people on this board that posted there admissions decisions from schools like MIT and Harvard, they seemed to have all the same stats, but a higher GPA and they still got rejected(well mainly deffered). But hey who knows, you might have a shot.

The title of this thread is an oxymoron.

GPA is horrible and will be incredibly hard to overlook

I highly doubt you'll get into Harvard/Yale

But I could be wrong

goodluck!

think about it...if he has really great recs and he writes an additional letter saying why he didnt give a **** freshman year hes probably going to get into the majority of his schools. His scores alone wont get him in...its the application of his scores within the context of his life that will get him into the top schools.

didn't you post EXACTLY the same thing a few weeks ago?

yeah.... because a letter saying "I was lazy" will make up for a year...

plus a lot of schools only look at your top 2-3 SAT II scores depending on how many they req.... I know UC Berkeley doesn't even have your 3rd on file

why wouldnt yale or harvard accept this guy?

so one year of not being mature automatically makes it so one of the smartest students cant go to a top school? I think not

Excellent chances eerywhere

lots of schools don't even look at freshman year. and if they do, as long as the improvement is as dramatic as this, the 2.0 won't even matter.

well you know Ben Golub (Caltech) and Ben Jones (MIT) are in their school's threads.... you could ask their opinion

rejected everywhere

I don't think upward trend is gonna get you much at these schools. They have people with straight A's their whole high school career. Why should they take someone with straight C's, then A's and B's, and finally straight A's junior year? Why should they take a proven slacker who found some motivation over someone who was always motivated? What's to stop the lazy guy from slacking off his first few years of college?

the truth hurts man, but you'd better play it safe and apply to a few more safeties...

eek. Heads or tails?

Call it in the air...

could go bothways depending on the essay

I would definitely apply to a few safeties. Tell us what happens, kid. We'll all be waiting.

in at georgetown EA (one of my top 3 choices)

thinking of withdrawing everywhere but Northwestern and Columbia(my other top 2)
