TEACHER RECS-SOLID
Counselor RECS-EXCELLENT
OTHER RECS-EXCELLENT

Your 1060 SAT verbal and math scores equal 23 on ACT, which is a little low. Your GPA is okay, however, and you have a lot of meaningful extracurriculars, which puts you in a better position. I would say your chances for getting in are excellent.

Also, THANK YOU for putting your race. I think some students are making the statement, "Well, I got in with......." but they may be an unrepresented minority. If you're Caucasian and trying to get in you need higher test scores and gpa, so it's often a matter of comparing apples to oranges.

Anyone else?

Test scores will hurt. I will re-take the test or try the ACT. EC's are strong and with test improvement you will be in good shape. 50/50 as it stands now.

No more tests...

SATs twice
ACTs twice... Did dreadful, so I'm not sending

But thanks for chancing me!

I got In!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! Great news. :)

Unbelievable that I didnt get in with slightly better boards than you :/ Your ECs are better though. Grats man.

Boston, I've seen you post this sentiment before, so I'm just going to ask. What were your gpa and ACT or SAT test scores (verbal and math if SAT).

You can't always compare the stats of two students. One may be an unrepresented minority and the other one may not be. I'm not saying this with regard to Scout, but in general.

Props dude.

I'm guessing that the fact that you retook the SAT and improved your score by 100 points also helped your case. It showed that you were willing to "go the extra mile" to try and get into IU. That , your grades and the ECs obviously put you over the top.

I always tell students, over and over again, that grades are the single most important thing in admissions. I'd say you are one great example of this--congratulations and best of luck next year at IUB.

Scout...when did you send your application in?

Well, IUB isn't my top choice, but it's up there.

Todd, I sent it in 10/10

Aimhigh, ~3.34 gpa at top public high school and mid 1700s on the SATs.

Boston, I'm assuming your 3.34 gpa is unweighted, and your mid-1700 SAT score is for verbal and math only. That would equal a 25 or 26 ACT score.

Very odd that you've been weightlisted. Can you confirm that the above is correct? Also, what do your EC's look like?

It's possible that they're cutting off at 3.4 this year (unless you're an unrepresented minority).

This was last year. mid 1700s includes writing as well. My ECs werent spectacular, but w/e. Community service (including overseas), hebrew school teacher, baseball coach in a special needs baseball league (subject of my essay), Summer program in intended major...that's about it.

Okay, I think the SAT's were just too low, then. If they were equal to Scout's I would have suggested a phone call just asking them about it, but it sounds like they were lower. Are you unhappy with where you ended up going?

Ummm my SATs were higher than his. Yes, I got into a better school, but I'm not too happy here and I think I might like IU more.

I would call and talk to them, then. I'd not only ask about transferring, I'd ask about the waitlist thing even though it was last year.

I actually think a big reason why I got in is because my Tourette Syndrome effects my test taking ability and that was made very clear on my counselor rec
