Chances at Ivies?

I think have a pretty good idea already, but I’m just wondering what my chances are at getting into any ivy league schools. (I’ll be a senior in the fall, btw).

SAT scores:
1970 total
700 writing
690 critical reading
580 math

GPA: currently 3.715 (dropped from a 3.8 at the beginning of my junior year because I strugged through enriched chemistry, ending up with a B and a B-, and had a terrible french teacher, ending up with B’s both terms. I’m also expecting it to rise somewhat next year because I’m focusing more on history and english, which I do better at generally.)

-I’ve taken all enriched/AP classes in all core subjects except math.

-5 AP/college level classes by the time i graduate (Comparative Politics, English, European History, French levels 4 and 5)

-I’m actively involved in the band program at my high school. I play both clarinet and tenor saxophone, and am in marching band, the top jazz band, the top concert band (I was the only one in my class to make it as a freshman) and various small ensembles. I was saxophone section leader my junior year and will be clarinet section leader my senior year in marching band.

-I also play my clarinet in a well known youth orchestra program. (Anyone ever heard of Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, or GTCYS?) There are six orchestras, and I’m in the top one, Symphony.

-Other school clubs I’m in are National Honor Society and a group that promotes chemically free lifestyles among high school students.

-I’m also actively involved in my church. I’ve taught summer bible school since 7th grade, Sunday School since 8th, and been a counselor for younger kids at our church camp since 9th. I’ve also played in the handbell choir since 4th grade.

-I’ve held two jobs, first as a receptionist at church and currently at the daycare that’s run there. Neither of them have given me many hours, only up to 10 a week at max.

-The majors I’m looking at right now are English, Political Science, History, and International studies.

I think that’s it, I know GPA and SAT’s aren’t really good enough for Ivies, but I’m just curious. I’m centering my college search mainly on midwestern Lutheran colleges anyways, so it’s all good.

ok you have an excellent chance.. try once again for the s.a.t.s if you can?? um i have a question about me.. im sorry this seems selfish i just dont know how to work this thing... these are my stats what do you think
ok i dont know how to work this thing.. and i have a question along the lines of fake out. so
my gpa's:
freshmen:3.4
sophmore:3.3
junior:2.43 ( iknow its horrible)
what are my chances of any college like pennstate (college park)? umd (collge park or umbc) or any state college

my s.a.t scores are much better i got a 1450 the old version?!?! does that mean anything.. do i have a chance at any college?

why do you say that OleWannabe88 has a great shot at the Ivies!!!???? The SAT is well below average and so is the GPA. I also don't see anything in your EC's that compensates for your so-so scores. I'd say the UC's like UCSD are the type of schools Olewannabe should be looking at. And....as for you Lata.Valli.88 you should be ashamed of yourself for lying like that to Ole Wannabe.

dang dont take it personally.. and no need ot be so harshh. to ole wannabe ... she/he will prolly get into an ivy school far before you do.. who ever you are.

Your idea is probably correct.

Ooh, are you looking at Wittenberg? My friend is going there and raves about it. I have also heard good things about Gustavus Aldophus.

Honestly, your stats are pretty low. I was rejected from Brown and Yale and waitlisted at Dartmouth with the equivalent of a 2250 (740 V, 710 M, 800 W), 760 math SATII, a 700 German SATII, 10 AP classes, and a 3.97 GPA with very similar ECs. If you are exceptional at clarinet, then you could audition; that might help if you are a truly distinguished player.

Thanks, guys. It's what I was expecting, and luckily I don't have my heart set on attending an Ivy. I was just wondering if I had any shot, lol.

Aussiek517, I have looked at Gustavus Adolphus and don't like it that much, St. Olaf is more to my liking actually.

I agree with bondsman, chances are razor thin to nil.

St Olaf has a beautiful campus and an excellent music program if you plan to continue in college. It also has some sort of arrangement with Carleton which is a top LAC.
