I'm not sure what I will get on real SAT.. I'm frankly scared...

A little background info.

I'm an international student (Korean to be exact)
I came and started learning English 4 years ago.

My GPA's not great (the heavy course load in sophomore year brought it down...I was still learning English then)

I think I can pull my GPA up with AP in my junior and senior year.

With majors and interests aside, what do you think my chances will be
if I apply to some Ivies and other top colleges?
Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Duke, Johns Hopkins.

P.S. Being an international student, I can not do anything. I can't have jobs.
I can't do paid internship. I can't compete in science fairs (except for Intel ISEF) I can't compete in other competitions. I can't get scholarships (majority of them) I know those really count when applying to colleges. Will colleges consider and cut me some slack if I don't have a beautiful list of activities like citizens and permanent residents do?

Thank you for reading through... I really appreciate it.
Please give me a honest answer. Thank you so much.

Hey wowser...

well, u seem to have a great resume for college...but there are SEVERAL gaps in it...i'll describe ur pros and cons (u probably already noticed these)

PROS:

you have lots of HONORS and AP classes...that's a HUGE PLUS

You have a great test scores, this makes u really capable of ACING the SAT...

You're EC's look above average

CONS: (sadly, but we all have some)

YOUR GRADES!!!!!! I understand that u go to a hard school, but it seems impossible for HARVARD to accept students with B's
The sophomore year grades can't be changed...i understand...it's just the biggest hole in ur app.

do you have any LEADERSHIP???

That's all i can say

as for chances...

HOPEFUL, is the key word...

DO YOUR BEST...keep your GRADES up...

and DON'T STRESS!!!!!

You'll be happy wherever u go

Manu

PS. I'm a JUNIOR TOO!!! (and Iam an immigrant, but i attend school in US)

Is that really true?
I knew that B+ is bad, but is it really that detrimental to my chances at Ivies?

One B is ok, but 3 of them will make the adcoms a little suspicious. What are your safeties?

I'm so desperate, please help me out

if your sat scores hold out the way you describe it comes down to not exactly your grades but rather your ranking, if not number ranking then at least percentile. If you are at least in the top 5-8%max then you have the same shot as anyone else at HYP (about 10-15%) duke is about 30%, Johns hopkins is around 50% maybe even more.. good luck

Why did you get a B+ in PE? I mean I don't think it will keep you out of a good school, but I've seen several students on here with bad PE grades. I just don't get it... is PE not based on participation at your schools?

The real issue is that you will be competing with huge numbers of Asian candidates with perfect grades, research internships, played at Carnegie Hall.....Both those already in the US and those still in Asia. The numbers applying to HYP are stagering. You may want to try some top schools not as popular with Asians.

Ivies are going to be mad-tuff, and so are the pluses (MIT+Stanford). If you've got at 3.8+ unweighted, and 1500+ on the SAT, you have a decent shot at all of them. National/regional awards help a lot also

Being international will hurt you. Don't look for sympathy there.

ivies are a super reach. all of them. based on your great SAT's and mediocre grades, the adcoms will assume you are lazy

Psshhh, you all are full of yourselves.

B's indicate character.

first of all, don't stress out.. you're a junior; you have time
secondly, do something really nifty this summer, and write about it in your essays, or decide to find a new hobby (riding a unicyle for example), which is good for essays and interviews, and makes you look like someone with character, which can make up for a few Bs

good luck

For H., 1 out of 33, if you don't require financial aid. Has nothing to do with you. and everything to do with numbers of foreign applicants.

I really don't think 3 B+'s will destroy his/her chances at Duke or JHU
