Chances at Masters in Public Policy/Admin

Hi!
I just wanted to see what you all thought of my chances for getting into a decent/top MPA/MPP program.

GPA: 3.78
GMAT: Not taken yet
Triple Major: Master in Professional Accounting (UT Austin's #1 program)
History
Business Honors

Work Experience: Merrill Lynch/ World Bank/ studied abroad in Edinburgh Scotland/ Museum of Art Research Assistant

I know this is not a lot to go by, but I'm VP of a few orgs, and I have had some other leadership roles. Suggestions?

Also, do you think I would have to work a few years as a consultant or somewhere before I could apply for an MPA/MPP?

2-3 years working would let you bring experience into the classroom.

EC’s, such as vp of a few orgs, won’t count as much unless one of them is something like a Federal Reserve Bank. ;)

Your GPA is fine though low enough that you will have to fret about people with 3.90, 3.95, 3.98, etc. looking more attractive.

Don’t know that you have the chops for a consultant title. But some sort of staff associate, staff assistant job seems in reach.
The job market for such is brutal right now.

Is “The Dad” being sarcastic? I hope so, but in case he’s not someone needs to guide him back to the Parent’s Forum so he can hang out with the other lifeless losers over there where he belongs.

Now to your question: Your profile looks strong and your GPA is WAY above the median for basically every MPA/MPP program in the country. Your work experience seems solid although you didn’t mention if it was actually work experience of internship experience. Although your work experience is more in the private than public sector, I don’t think that should hurt you.
