Chances at McGill?

Currently, I’m an all-too-eager-to-get-out-of-high-school junior at a public high school in the US. Recently, someone suggested that I should take a look at McGill University. I started looking into it and became incredibly interested.

Reasons for applying:

I’m interested in both medical sciences and human rights (basically global health). I’m interested in McGill’s Bachelor of Arts and Science because it caters to my interests in both the STEM and humanities fields. I understand that McGill is quite rigorous (one of the reasons I wish to apply) and that there is no handholding! I’ve a very independent and motivated student so I believe that I would fit in with that environment.

I plan to work overseas in the future so going to an international school with such a diverse student body would help me adapt to new cultures, new environments, and language barriers. I’m also interested in learning new languages such as French and Arabic; I’m hoping that going to McGill and living in Montreal would help.

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot throughout my childhood and teen years, so living and studying in a foreign country would be quite ideal for me.

What would be my chances, given my scores, of getting into the BA&Sc program at McGill?

My current weighted GPA is a 4.24 (should go up after this year bc more APs). I’m not sure of my unweighted GPA, I assume it’s around a 4.0 of 3.8 - I have two B+s from Algebra 1 honors and Geometry honors that I took in middle school and one A- in honors chemistry. So far the only SAT and SAT IIs that I have taken are the PSAT (1300 - really bad I know but I was only a sophomore) and an 800 on the World History SAT II.

I plan to take both the SAT and ACT later this year, as well as Chemistry, Math II, and Spanish SAT IIs.

Freshman:
Algebra 2 Honors (HN) - A
World History HN - A
English 9 HN - A
Biology HN - A
Spanish 2 - A

Sophomore:
Precalc with Trig - A
Chemistry HN - A-
AP World History - A and a 5 on the exam
English 10 HN - A
Spanish 3 - A

Junior (current grades):
AP Language and Comp - A
AP US History - A
AP AB Calculus - A
AP Physics 1 - A
AP Chemistry - A
Spanish 4 - A

Senior (what I plan to take):
AP Literature
AP Biology
AP BC Calculus
AP Government
AP Spanish
Anatomy

I’m also curious to know other people’s thoughts on McGill - whether it be academic rigor, class size, social scene, fitting in as an international student, finding your group of friends, no housing after freshman year, studying abroad, research or internship opportunities, etc, etc

Thanks!
