Chances at Northwestern: First Timer Here!

Hey guys, I've been reading around here for a while and I really appreciate all of the information that circulates through here. I'm a first generation college student in my family so I've been doing a lot of research as of late and this forum has provided a lot of assistance.

So, as you probably know, I'm here to see what everyone thinks of my opportunity to get into Northwestern. I'm a 17 year old junior in central Wisconsin and I recently toured this university and was absolutely amazed. Beautiful campus, great environment, and an outstanding reputation.

Here is some notable information:

4.0 GPA (unweighted, on a 4.0 scale)

Class Rank: #1 out of 308

ACT: 31 (soon to be taken again, hopefully ending with a 32)

Full-IB Diploma Candidate (Physics HL, Chem SL, Math HL, English HL, History HL, French HL)

150+ Hours of CAS (refereeing, coaching youth soccer, volunteering at the local hospital, relief efforts following a severe tornado, setting up "soup kitchens" at the local Salvation Army, and more)

Varsity Soccer: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior.

First Team All-Conference: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and barring any injury or setback, as a Senior.

Honorable Mention All-State: Junior

12th All-Time Leading Scorer (likely to crack top five barring any injury).

Winter/Spring/Summer Soccer: 2nd ranked team in WI

ODP Experience: All-State Team in 2006, 2007

National Honor Society Member

Yearbook: Sophomore, Senior (Editor)

Newspaper: Freshman, Senior

Let me know what you think, honest opinions are welcome. Also, areas of improvement/constructive criticism are encouraged. Thanks again!

Your chance is relatively good for Northwestern. If you raise your ACT score it will greatly increase your chances, so really work hard on accomplishing this.

Definitely, I agree. After taking it, there are specific targets of mine that will increase my score by a point, possibly two. Thanks for the opinion.

Other opinions are appreciated!

You’d have a solid shot at NW. I’d say roughly 50/50, which is pretty good. Have you looked at schools like Vanderbilt, Washington U, Emory? You’d definitely get in, and you could probably play soccer at the latter 2. Good luck. If you can chance back, it would be awesome. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1055573-i-know-its-early-but-chances-junior.html</a></p>

Bump…

Your tests score fall well within the 25-75% range at NW. Being #1 in a largeish class will help. Your chances are very good, but NW is still on that upper-middle of selective schools where admission are unpredictable. I think 50-50 was not a bad assessment, but I think if you applied at about 2 other similarly competitive schools you would almost guarantees admission to 1.

edit: chance me back if you can http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1134986-chances-top-business-schools-math-lowest-subscore.html</a></p>

Thanks for the input.

Great chances… but remember that there are tons of other applicants that may have stats that are also outstanding. Focus more on your ACT, teacher rec’s, and personal statement to help increase your chances.
BTW, how can you still be an IB Diploma applicant when you have 5 HL’s? Doesn’t IB limit a maximum of four HL’s?

Awesome chance, and I pretty much agree with the advice given by others, but if you really want to up your chances, I would keep in contact with their soccer coach and maybe even look to get recruited
