Chances at Northwestern University

Currently a junior and I really want to get into NWU.

But while you're here, chance me at NWU, Princeton, Stanford, U of I? Probably leaning towards Engineering.

GPA (weighted): 4.79
GPA (unweighted): 3.97
ACT (I only took the practice, taking the real one Saturday) Composite: 32
Rank: Top 1% to 5% of 1000

Courses
Taken 7 AP Classes so far (AP World - 5, AP Gov - 3 lol, AP Micro - 4, AP Spanish, AP Lang&Comp, AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP US History), plan to take 6 more (AP Stats, AP Spanish again, AP Physics C, AP Euro, AP Bio, AP Lit) next year
Rest of my classes have been Honors (save PE)
4 years of Honors Spanish/AP
2 years of Honors Latin (through NWU)
Double Science for 2 years (if that helps)
2 years of academic Choir

ECs
Debate (all 4 years); Probably getting an exec position
Student Council (all 4 years); Might get an exec position
International Club (all 4 years)
Mu Alpha Theta (3 years) (club for community service/math tutoring)
WYSE/JETS (3 years)
NHS (2 years)
German Club (2 years)
First Class (2 years) (club to help out incoming freshmen/transfer students)

120+ hours of Community Service (probably getting to around 200)
No work experience (hopefully this summer, though)
2ish years of EPGY through Stanford (when I was younger)
10+ years of Center for Talent Development/Gifted Learning Links through Northwestern University (since I was 4)

I'm also an Asian female (Filipina-American) and I heard that hurts my chances of being accepted, and probably looking into Engineering. Does skipping a grade (1st, so not that much) also help my chance of admission? Is it worth applying Early Decision if I may get aid elsewhere? Thanks!

Northwestern is never a match for anyone. Although it’s easier to get into than an Ivy, you should make sure you have safeties.

That being said, your scores look pretty similar to the people who have gotten accepted to Northwestern in years past from my school. I live in Illinois and a lot of people from the Honors/AP track consider Northwestern as a mandatory school to apply to. However, I know a few students at the university who hate it there because it’s extremely difficult and they’re not getting any financial aid. If I were you, I’d check out the campus to see if it’s something you really want.

U of I you’d definitely get into, but if you have your heart set on Engineering, maybe not. I know a lot of smart kids who’ve been rejected.

Northwestern: High Match/Low Reach
Princeton/Stanford: Low Reach
U of I: Safety
Good Luck!
