Hey guys so I’m thinking about applying ED to NU and I’m just so nervous about applying next school year so I just want to know how I stand as of right now (Class of 2019)
IN STATE
Major 1: Journalism
Major 2: Classics
W GPA: 4.4
UW: 3.85
ACT: 31 (ew, but I’m retaking it and hoping to raise to a 32-34 range)
EC: Color Guard w/ marching band, Latin club, head copy editor of the yearbook, manager of yearbook club, Read 2 Lead club (helped tutor elementary kids), guitar club
Awards: Summa Cum Laude on Level 1 Latin, Summa Cum Laude on Level 3/4 poetry (didn’t take the Latin 2 test my sophomore year)
APs: Euro, Latin, Comp Sci, Lang, AP psych
Letter of Recs: Latin teacher of four years, Journalism/yearbook advisor
Essays: Probably very good, I’m a good writer and I’ll be doing lots of editing with them
I know that Classics is a very unusual major for students to go into so I’m not sure if I will have any advantage of applying as a Classics major (the more uncommon major) which I have a decent background in, or apply to Medill since I have a stronger background in journalism and editing. I know that they have great Classics and Journalism programs, which are the two fields that I am most passionate about, which is why I want to apply ED. Racially, I am a middle eastern female but IMO that doesn’t help for anything. Legacy wise, the only person in my family to attend was my brother who graduated as a Classics major. Not really pushing my chances because I know that UIUC also has a good Journalism program and stuff
