Chances at Northwestern

hey everyone,

One of my best friends is applying to Northwestern. I'm really worried about her, because she gets discouraged pretty easily and I'm not sure if she'll get into Northwestern, although she's never expressed any doubt about it herself. she's also applying to Yale, Duke, William and Mary, and some state schools. Could you guys evaluate her chances for Northwestern, cuz I think I'm in a biased position and can't do it myself.

SAT I: 1460 (800M, 660V)
SAT II: taking them this saturday
GPA: ~4.4 weighted, 4.0 unweighted (1/150)
AP's: US history (3), eng. lang (3), spanish (4), calc ab (5)
This year's schedule: ap chem, ap eng. lit, calc II (college), ap stats, humanities, anat & physiology
Recommendations: I read both of them, one was ok and one was good

EC's:
-AIME (1 year)
-Spanish Honor Society
-National Honor Society
-State Spanish Conference, Superiors on impromptu and poem
-tutor for math (3 years)
-counselor/tutor at Math Camp for three summers
-piano and guitar (but mostly as hobbies)

I might have missed one or two things, but I think that sums it up as a whole. Thanks for any help!

Unless her SAT II scores are ridiculously bad, I think she has a great shot at all of those schools but Yale.

Yale, Duke, and Northwestern are all definitely reaches for her. William and Mary is not easy either. Did you read her essay? It better be quite good. SAT II scores of 700+ will help a lot, but the ECs just don't seem very compelling. Grades and Rank are good though, SAT I is good enough. I would say she has a pretty good chance, but Yale is out of the picture completely (only 11% acceptance, and I've seen WAY more qualified people get rejected), Duke she has an OK chance at but not great (only 23% acceptance rate), Northwestern she is probably 65/45 chance (33% acceptance rate, but I don't much about that school). William and Mary is tough too, 34%. And I know you can't go just be acceptance rates, but Yale, Duke, and Northwestern have very strong applicant pools, esp. Yale.

Anyways good luck to her

William and Mary is probably a given.

Yale and Duke are both reaches.
