Extracurricular:

-1st degree black belt in TKD (idk if this helps at all, my instructor said it would lol. i should have second degree by the end of senior year)
-Very active on the Debate team. CX captain for 2 years, 3rd at UIL state, qualified for the more prestigious TFA state 2 years in a row, qualified for nationals 2 years in a row. hopefully ill do at lot better next year (chances are i will)
-National Society of High School Scholars
-Attended National Youth Leadership Conference
-Participated in Kids Way, a program under United Way. Among other community activities, United Way gave us about 20000 dollars as grant money, and we would sit down in mini-groups and isolate specific problems that we percieve in society. we then would publish these results, and various charity organizations would apply/ present to us for grant money. we would examine these organizations and see which one(s) would provide the most efficacious solution to the problem(s) we had identified. i did this for 4 years, then the program got shut down :(
-part of the PACE internship program through my school. basically i get AP credit for choosing an internship to take up during the school year and fulfilling its obligations. im taking this class next year, but ive already recieved my admission letter (you have to apply to get in, its pretty prestigious). i intend to intern at some i-bank downtown.
-KUMON extracurricular math program. i officially finished algebra 1 related material by the fifth grade, and i have a bunch of other awards from this.
-I'm taking a High School Summer Scholars program at Wash U. St.L this summer, specifically a college course in economics (macro and micro).
-Toastmasters Public Speaking program, 2 yrs in a row.
-AIM for SEVA tsunami disaster relief fundraising.
-I started a youth group at my temple thats pretty baller. among other things, we hold debates, teach the younger kids sunday school stuff, and just generally do community activities. i intend to personally expand this program next year, and i personally have been teaching the younger kids at sunday school for over a year now.
-been in a private art school since 5th grade. haven't entered any competitions though.

AP Scores:
i havent taken any yet, but im like 99% sure that the ones i take this may will be all 5's with maybe one 4. im taking: US Hist, Chem, English (Lang), Comp Sci 2 (AB).

also, im damn good at writing essays. so if it comes down to my ability to write a good application essay, i can do that

*note: my grades were pretty much crap this semester, to state the obvious. it was due to a lack of foresight and certain study skills (in addition to my tendency to slack every now and then), though i dont see this being a problem for the first semester of my senior year, seeing as im taking classes i really really really like and ive kinda been given a wake up call haha.
*note 2: i looked at my transcript for the weighted GPA, though im not sure if my school weights it the way that its sposed to be. i'd be grateful if someone would tell me what the norm is for weighting
*note 3: in addition to my chances, im also looking for what kind of action i can take now in order to improve my chances.

Hella thanks in advance

your chances are probably a bit weak for stern because of your GPA. Clearly, the grades you received are the grades you received, so i would focus on developing your extracurricular activities in general to improve your chances. Become more involved where possible and try to show passion, i guess.

do you think that, given that i have 1.3 semesters left before applications are due, there is time to make repairs to my GPA such that it is acceptable/ more acceptable to a significant degree? as i stated, my grades should be quite stellar for the first semester of senior year

It's sort of on the fence...some solid SAT scores will really help, as well as some impressive SATIIs...A good ACT score sumbitted too...Anything for damage control on those D's...I don't want to be rude but how do you manage to get them when you did so good/excellent in some of your other classes?

hahaha yeaaaaa, i kinda have this tendency to slack every now and then, and i was one of those kids who got away with it for a long time. that is until, of course, i hit a brick wall in certain classes that require a disciplined reading regimen almost every night (US Hist AP), the ability to study efficiently (Chem AP), and the ability to not blow off homework (Physics, PreCal). As they say, pain is the best teacher, and as i've mentioned above i don't forecast a similar problem in the future.

should i just take both the math SAT II's?

also, ive started to teach myself business statistics/calculus/general finance(both the math part and non math)/general economics(both the math part and non math) by downloading textbooks etc. how could i broadcast this better than just doing well in economics/calculus next year?

thanks for the advice:)

bump, plus 6 or more random characters?
