Ok so I'm not really sure why, but for some reason I feel like I'm obligated to apply to NYU even though my grades are not remotely acceptable. The area is perfect for me because my brother has an apartment nearby, and I feel like NYU academics would keep me interested. Should I even bother, or is it pathetic to apply, hoping I'll be accepted?
I'm still a junior so much of my official grades are missing, but is there any chance?

PSATs - First time 1600, Second time, 1600 (I'm hoping I will do better than this)
GPA as of sophomore - 3.4 (Grades demonstrate positive curve, with weak performance GR.9)
AP Classes - AP USH II. AP Eng./Comp...Senior year (scheduled) - AP Gov./Pol.
AP Environmental Sci. AP Economics, AP Lit/Comp
Extracurriculars: Forensics (Congressional debate), founded "Job Opportunities" board in school, working on a personal project which assesses and breaks down individual court cases that I personally attended, and took notes on.
P/T Jobs: Various decent paying jobs in Food/Bev/Hosp industry as a line cook, busperson, server, etc.
Pending acceptance in Boston University High School Honors program which offers college credits for BU courses over the 2011 summer break

Also, I'm Egyptian, so I guess that accounts for some kind of minority consideration?

I talked to the Vice Pres. of admissions of NYU at a college seminar in NYC this weekend, and he told me that honestly, my chances are bad. He did however reassure me that since my GPA was rising (something NYU highly considers, apparently) I would have a chance if I did well on my SATs/AP tests, wrote an exceptional essay, and completed the BU summer program.
So assuming that everything from now until the admissions process goes absolutely perfect, I would still have slim chances of acceptance, but I would appreciate any feedback from current/prospective students.
Thanks for your time!
