Chances at Reach Schools?

Hi guys! After submitting college apps, I was wondering about my reach schools.

In School
Debate team- Lincoln Douglas,4 years. Junior Captain my junior year and currently senior captain. Qualified to 2 of the three big national tournaments last year and poised to do the same this year. Have won awards locally and this year done well at national tournaments,
HOSA- been a member 4 years, was VP my junior year but no major positions now
Founder of Model UN- restarted the club this year, working to increase membership and attend competitions
Member of KIA volunteering club (it’s pretty self driven though, not a REAL club)
Honors Societies-
NHS
Spanish HS
Technical Honors Society
Social Studies Honors Society

Out of School
Indian Classical dance (since I was 6), graduated junior year but still pursuing as a pastime. The graduation is a large event, and being a graduate holds a level of prestige, it is a leadership position, though it may not seem that way.
HSS (Religious Organization) (11,12)- family helped restart the program in our locale after it died down, Youth leader
CLTMA (ethnic group) (9-12)- part of youth chapter and general member, participate in cultural events to raise awareness about specific ethnic traditions
Helped volunteer with local middle school debate programs and co-founded a middle school debate team (Both teams did well at the state level)
Volunteer with kids at the local YMCA (9-12)- weekly/as time permits
Participated in a hospital sponsored career development program for 6 months for 1/2 a high school credit

Summer stuff
Freshman year

  • Went to India (kind of sad I was unable to be productive)

Sophomore year

  • Attended debate camp in Texas
  • Interned with a local non-profit
  • Practiced for my dance graduation

Junior year

  • Attended debate nationals
-Attended summer ventures (a 4 week math and science camp )
    -Attended a religious retreat
  • Participated in annual dance recital

Teacher Recs
-Will all be amazing- I’m very close with these teachers and my counselor, despite going to a large school. My debate coach will also write an excellent rec

Essays

  • Common App one was on dance and was excellent
  • Princeton essay has two small grammar errors- will this be an issue?

I think I’m most worried for mid-year grades. I ended up getting B’s in AP Chem (which is ongoing) but a low B as a final in Calc AB. It was a very difficult class and I did my best to keep my grade up but all my test grades were atrocious. How negatively do you think that will affect admissions?

I think you will get into Rice and Duke. You have a really great shot at Princeton, but one cannot say. I had a friend who was deferred and is val with really good ECs and stats.

Chance me?

Duke and rice look good which is saying something as both are super competitive. The best anyone can say about Princeton is you are competitive beyond that it’s anyone’s guess. Best of luck!

Thanks guys! I’ll chance back

Duke and Rice reject 85 out of every 100 applicants. Those are a reach for most including you.

Your strength is your grades and test scores.

Your competition could have more leadership and / or activities in their major

What are your top choices?

Of course, I was just wondering if realistically I had a decent shot. The form of debate I do is heavily philosophy based, so I was thinking that would be good enough. There aren’t any classes that have a base in it offered at my school either or I would have signed up for those. I am probably going to take an online philosophy class in spring though, in addition to my regular coursework.

Duke and Rice are probably my top actually, and UT Austin comes right under.
