The only real powerful thing I have on my resume is my diversity...is it enough to gain acceptance into Reed?

You will make it into Reed if your essays show a budding intellect. I know of people with straights Fs who get in, so as long as they were not pompous asses (the reason they reject people they KNOW will opt of HYP).

Wow, I had no idea. Reeds average GPA is a 3.8 and the average SAT score is something like a 1360. I thought it was somewhat of a longshot for me.
Also, what does the term HYP refer to?

By the way, Reed has like a 50% acceptace rate. I think they let in pretty much everyone, except snobs who would go against the school's unofficial motto:: "atheism, communism, and free love."

i think you are the perfect candidate for many schools, your scores are balanced!!! 620=620 wow, talk about symmetry, if they had the Davinci art academy, then you would be in for sure. and about reed, you r fine

"That's not logical. If Reed excepted everyone then why would they're statistics be so high?"

I think you need to take a good look in the mirror ;)

I never said Reed "excepted everyone," and what exactly do you mean by "they're statistics"? Do you mean the average admit stats, which aren't even that high?

You must realize, Reed has a big reputation for letting in the masses, but pumping out only the elite.

if you come across as keen and interested in learning and just seem interesting in yourself you'll have a good shot. for the most part a lot of people DO have excellent stats but many do not, but as long as you like learning and questioning and discussing things and show the adcoms that I wouldn't write the place off. your international things will look very good.

oh, and get an interview. they are laid back and they ask you interesting questions.

are you a junior? senior? I applied RD. let's see what happens.

Your stats are reasonable for Reed. But as someone stated earlier, Reed puts a big emphasis on essays - that can be the real make-or-break component of your application.

FYI - Reed has a pretty active livejournal community - it's reedlj

book smart, i mean kids that just memorize from the books & never decide to question anything or apply what they learn to the real world. also with no regards to wanting to learn. they just learn for the heck of it

intellectually smart = kids who actually want to learn or find learning fascinating. they enjoy having discussions because it interests them. they don't learn for the heck of it
