<p>It looks like this school accepts 62% of the people who apply. On the U.S. News premium page their "middle 50%" numbers for the SAT are 480-560 for CR and 500-590 for math. </p>
<p>I would say you have a decent chance if you make the effort- they seem to consider extracurriculars and talent/ability. A visit or off-campus interview would help to indicate interest. </p>
<p>Maybe they'd give you some extra points if you point out to them that their admissions page shouldn't say "Listen to what our student's [sic] have to say about SHU."</p>

<p>It might be a little bit dicey especially because those SATs aren't too great. Are you hoping to be a recruited athlete? You might want to consider a year of community college to boost your scores a bit, especially the writing.</p>

<p>yeah uhh dont come to SHU. i'm a freshmen here and ive talked to everyone and they hate it. i was told there was a 50% freshmen to soph retention rate too. ive talked to at least 15 people who want to transfer and i'm transferring in the spring.</p>
<p>oh my~ i have a need to say sacred heart USED to be my high school! yup, it used to be Notre Dame back then! sara~ do you know anyone who goes there? it's a pretty area, and a place that perhaps you can begin to become what you want to be!</p>
<p>Sara, my niece goes to Sacred Heart. She is a sophmore, and she loves it there. It is the first place in along time she feels she belongs.</p>
<p>US News has the retention rate at 81%-- not good. studentsreview.com has some people complaining about students who come with a lot of friends already in tow (I can see why that might make it a little hard to make friends). I think an overnight visit would definitely be called for.</p>

<p>What's the reason for the 19% leaving? Were they, perhaps, kids who might have been on the low end academically - those "given a chance to prove themselves" who couldn't? </p>
<p>I find this 81% retention rate a lot more realistic than Notre Dame's 96%. If only 4% of the freshmen don't graduate 4 years later, the school is too easy! </p>
<p>So, maybe it is Notre DAme, very hard to get into, not so tough while you're there. Sacred Heart: easy to get into, more difficult than you thought once you're in.</p>

<p>Hi Sarah, my roommates got in because the average gpa of kids coming into this school is not the 3.5 that is listed.It is actually closer to a 2.8.
you should be okay if you really want to get into here.
also, fencersmother, i do not mean to seem like I am attacking you but there is an 81% retention rate because nobody likes it here at all. this is, in fact, a very expensive high school. Notre Dame has a 96% retention rate because everyone at the school loves it. And as far as academically, I wasn't the top of the top at my high school. I was around a 3.3-3.4 GPA student in high school. However, this first semester at SHU, I have a 3.7 GPA. It is much easier than high school. I barely study for tests and on a test where I got a 90%, the people around me ranged everywhere from a 10% to a 47%. This school is easy to get into and even easier to succeed in. As far as Notre Dame, I have a friend there who had a 4.4 GPA in high school and was ranked in the top 5% of my graduating class (there were about 300 students). He said that school is very tough. On a scale of 1-10, Notre Dame would be around a 9 whereas Sacred Heart would be lucky to have around a 3, and that is just in terms of academics. As for sports, the comparisons should stop because a division 1 program could not be as bad as this one. Sure, there is a very low amount of donations and such, but this school is really a community college masquerading as a division 1 university.</p>
<p>After visiting Alextang, I think I agree with your last statement: Sacred Heart does seem like a community college with dorms and a very nice gym.</p>
<p>On the other hand, we met (by accident) the head of the business school who spoke to us for an hour or more and was very forthright and upright about the school. He said that in the past, Sacred Heart was essentially a commuter type school for the middle 50% of high school students, with a few of the smarties thrown in. However, in the past couple years, they have had a huge recruitment drive and are trying to improve the school with mixed results depending on major.</p>
<p>Business is a very up-and-coming major and their medical/therapy majors do very well. Don't go there to major in Philosophy. The athletes we spoke to were a mixed bunch - typical of lots of Div 1 programs in most sports (didn't meet any football players, but talked to all the fencers, basketballers, and the women's soccer teams). Some were very good athletes but not quite the caliber of say, UCONN, in basketball. Or they were very smart but wanted to stay close to home.</p>
<p>Hard to say what the future of this school is. With a new chapel coming in and the search for a more "Catholic" image, SHU might just pull off a miracle in transformation.</p>
